Sir Patrick Moore dead at 89

Sad, but he was clearly just hanging on. I remember the days where a Sky at Night simulation of an eclipse would involve ping pong balls and torch bulbs. In black and white. Recently an explanation of dark matter used jelly beans, so progress there  I hope they keep the Sky at Night going, there are so few un-stupid programs running.

Indeed. Anyone else who tries it now is merely imitating him (or possibly a Germanic movie villain)

Damn it. I am stuck at a bit on Assassin’s Creed 3 and was hoping to get him to help me out.

Farewell Sir Patrick. A nation of 30 ish year old gamers salutes you - if we can get away from our PCs/PS3s/Xbox 360s long enough to queue up behind the astronomers.

This sounds like a bit of a mental night with Sir Patrick:

He got his xylophone out to rave tunes.

I devoured his books on astronomy when I was in junior high, and enjoyed watching him on TV when I lived in England in the '70s.

I haven’t felt this bad since Jack the Stargazer passed away a couple of years ago. :frowning:
