And there’s the horn! After the first round, we have a few surprises, few blow-outs and several nail-biters. Here are the results: I. **Andy Griffith 34,** Mad About You 25 Everybody Loves Raymond 22, **Brady Bunch 37** **All in the Family 40** , Home Improvement 19 **I Love Lucy 33,** Fresh Prince 26 **Cosby Show 33** , Malcolm in the Middle 26 **Roseanne 31,** Happy Days 27 Leave it to Beaver 28, \*\*Good Times 29 \*\* (a come-from-behind nail-biter!) Donna Reed 17, \*\*Arrested Development 40 \*\* II. **MASH 50,** Sanford & Son 9 **Cheers 32,** Bob Newhart 27 **Frasier 39,** 30 Rock 18 **Taxi 37,** NewsRadio 22 **Newhart 48,** Frank’s Place 10 **WKRP 46** , Sports Night 11 **Barney Miller 31** , The Office 27 (another close last-minute rally) **Mary Tyler Moore 32** , Scrubs 26 III. **Seinfeld 52,** Different World 5 **Friends 41,** Bosom Buddies 11 Laverne & Shirley 13, **Drew Carey 46** **Will & Grace 34,** Dobie Gillis 24 **Odd Couple 49** , Facts of Life 10 **Welcome Back, Kotter 50,** Martin 9 **My Name is Earl 32,** That 70s Show 25 **Three’s Company 31** , Golden Girls 28 IV. **Beverly Hillbillies 54** , Small Wonder 3 **Green Acres 36** , ALF 23 **3rd Rock 46** , Mr. Ed 12 **Addam’s Family 52,** Sabrina the Teenage Witch 7 **Mork & Mindy 43** , Herman’s Head 16 **Soap 43,** Sledgehammer! 12 **Munsters 43,** Get a Life 25 I Dream of Jeanie 20, **Bewitched 38** I’ll have the next round up shortly. A couple personal comments and observations: -Biggest disappointment is the early departure of ‘The Office,’ ‘Scrubs’ and ‘30 Rock.’ -Biggest surprise: The trouncing ‘Bewitched’ gave to ‘Jeanie.’ Who’d have thought a hot, subserviant and scantily-clad genie would beat out a head-strong witch of a housewife? -Biggest blow-outs: ‘Beverly Hillbillies’ over ‘Small Wonder,’ and ‘Seinfeld’ over ‘A Different World.’ -Most surprising show not to score in double digits: ‘Sanford & Son.’ However, it was going up against powerhouse ‘MASH.’ ---

The Good: **Everybody Loathes Raymond** is gone fast. Ditto **Malcolm**. The Bad: **Bosom Buddies** and **Dobie Gillis** get no respect. The Ugly: **Lucy** is still in it. ☹ ---

Damn. **Sports Night** didn’t make it. ☹ If **Taxi** and **The Addams Family** don’t make the finalists, I will be severely disappointed. [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/sitcom-madness-08-the-first-round/445942.md?page=3)
