- I am daughter to my dad
- My dad was a secondary actor who had a scene opposite Walter Matthau in Out to Sea.
- Walter Matthau and Kevin Bacon worked together in JFK.
Woo hoo!!
Woo hoo!!
You are a double three. You also have this connection:
Baglady to Dad (birth)
Dad to Rohn Thomas (Iron Maze)
Rohn Thomas to Kevin Bacon (Telling Lies in America).
And that makes everyone here on the board at worst a 4 (if you really stretch the rules).
So, has this be done with other actors in place of Kevin Bacon? Are there other actors who are just as “connected?”
Try a 2 for me. The president of my company is a cousin of Kevin Bacon.
AAAuggh!! It’s eerie, I tells ya, EEERIE!!
I plugged in Olga Baclanova, from Tod Browning’s Freaks (1932), figuring that none of the truly unique actors in this bizarre movie ever appeared in anything else, but this is what I got:
Boots: The site linked above provides three other versions of this game: Elvis, Arnold Schwartzenegger, and Any Actor to Any Actor.
I don’t think that there is anything special about Kevin Bacon, he just somehow ended up being the name associated with the game.
I would imagine there are many people much more connected (average steps to all other actors) than Kevin Bacon. A prolific character actor with a long career would be a good guess. (Example: Tom London has about 450 movie credits between 1903 and 1961.)
Did some more looking.
This page has a list of the 1000 best connected people as listed at IMDb. Kevin Bacon is only #669.
Rod Steiger, Christopher Lee, Donald Pleasence, Robert Mitchum, and Gene Hackman comprise the top 5.
Sealemon88: Leslie Nielson may very well never have appeared in any films known by the system. However, Leslie NielsEn appeared with Robert Hays in Airplane, etc.
By the way, I’m proud to have a Bacon Number of 4. And yes, that’s through a movie performance, not because I work with a cousin’s hairdresser or whatever.
::futilely holding hands in air, while crowd is panicking::
[screechy voice] “Remain calm! All is well!”
Wow, I’m a 3 (at most).
Sublight, freshman dorm-mate of Ian Lithgow
Ian Lithgow in Far from Bismarck, with Gabriel Jarret
Gabriel Jarret was in Apollo 13, with Kevin Bacon.
also,
Sublight -> Ian Lithgow
Ian Lithgow -> John Lithgow (son/father)
John Lithgow, in Footloose, with Kevin Bacon.
So far, the longest link I’ve been able to find is Ai Iijima, a 4. Gonna keep trying.
–sublight.
Hot damn, I found a 7! And it didn’t even invlove William Devane.
The Oracle says: Shaker Hayely has a Bacon number of 7.
Shaker Hayely was in Badkonake sefid (1995) with Anna Borkowska
Anna Borkowska was in Yar dar khaneh va (1988) with Roya Nonahali
Roya Nonahali was in Fifth Season, The (1997) with Parvis Pourhosseini
Parvis Pourhosseini was in Telesm (1988) with Jamshid Mashayekhi
Jamshid Mashayekhi was in Sooteh-Delan (1978) with Shohreh Aghdashloo
Shohreh Aghdashloo was in Twenty Bucks (1993) with Elisabeth Shue
Elisabeth Shue was in Hollow Man (2000) with Kevin Bacon
–sublight.
All right this has never been relevant anywhere else. But I am actually only two degrees away from Kevin Bacon. Sounds untrue you say. No. I worked at The San Jose Repertory Theater for about the year. The Artistic Director there, Timi Near is a cousin of Kevin Bacon who actually just did a concert there with his brother a few months ago.
It’s fun…but frustrating too. I figured that with my love of obscure films, I should be able to think of a few good ones. But, as you’ll discover, there are a few Hollywood actors that have been in hundreds of flicks, which cut the Bacon numbers right down. (Type, type, type, this will do it, heh, heh heh, hit return…Bacon number is three…aaaaargh)
I was putting in pop stars who only did one or two film and actors from silents, serials, foreign movies, and getting lots of threes. I finally got a 4 with Musidora, the French silent actress.
Foreign actors probably do best.
I’ll have to keep trying. (I did get a couple of “infinities”, but those were actors in documentaries who never did anything else.)
Mike Nelsion is a three, Joel Hodgson is a two. Believe it or not. (apparently, Mike has a very, very small movie credit to his name) So was John Agar and Miles O’Keefe. Gregorio Sala was a three. And if you know who he is, you have too much time on your hands.
Joe Don Baker has a one, but his proximity to Bacon isn’t really that shocking. Heh heh heh.
Beat Takeshi is a two, but I guess Johnny Memnonic kinda clinched that one. So’s Sammo Hung and Michelle Yeoh. And Madonna, Prince, and Sting. And Don “The Dragon” Willson.
An accidentally inputed blank space is a three, for some reason.
Go Nagai, unbelivably, rates a three. He apparently was “Tsukudani Expert” in Toxix Avenger 2. So was Megumi Hayashibara.
The highest I was able to get was Rod Sterling, (a misspelled Ron Sterling) a four. I’m not very good at this.
Bart the Bear is tragically not in the database.

“You think you can take me? Go ahead on!”
Heh. You guys are connected to Bacon through crusty old actors–I get Liv Tyler!
Me to our CEO’s ex-wife (I do know her)
Ex-wife to Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler (she dated their manager)
Steven Tyler to Liv Tyler
Liv Tyler was in That Thing You Do! (1996) with Clint Howard
Clint Howard was in My Dog Skip (2000) with Kevin Bacon
Suppose I might get a lower number directly through Steven Tyler, but I don’t know which one he is in the Oracle, and I’d rather stick with 5 and keep Liv in the lineup…
Incidentally, the farthest I found was a 5 for Georges Méliès:
Georges Melies was in Voyage dans la lune, Le (1902) with Jeanne d’Alcy
Jeanne d’Alcy was in Grand Melies, Le (1952) with Andre Melies
Andre Melies was in Judex (1963) with Sylva Koscina
Sylva Koscina was in Secret War of Harry Frigg, The (1968) with George Ives
George Ives was in Stir of Echoes (1999) with Kevin Bacon
Isn’t it Leslie Nielsen?
Hell I tried some obscure Russian actors from things like Stalker and Solaris and could only get a 3 or 4! I even tried Nacy Cartwright and got a 2! I even tried Lemmy of Motorhead because he did an obscure movie in England and forgot about Airheads and got a 2. it’s a lot of fun, I went to one of the movie sites and was just randomly pulling names and pasting them in to see what it would do.
Good Heavens, Long Dong Silver has a Bacon number of 3:
Long Dong Silver was in Electric Blue 3 (1982) with Seka
Seka was in Men Don’t Leave (1990) with Gerry Becker
Gerry Becker was in Sleepers (1996) with Kevin Bacon
The program has some bugs in it to be sure. I input Rudolph Valention and got a Bacon Number of 2! According to the site, RV was in a movie with Sophia Loren in 1965 (obviously wrong unless they used his corpse as a prop). It obviously wasn’t THAT RV. I think that’s cheating a bit on the part of the program.
plnnr - I wouldn’t call it a bug, exactly, but it does seem like cheating. The movie mentioned, The Love Goddesses, was a documentary featuring movie clips. I don’t think that should really qualify as a degree of seperation.
