Iā€™d be all over that if it werenā€™t build at Six-Freaking-Flags. Iā€™ve had some bad experiences at their various parks and surely wouldnā€™t trust my life to _that_ coaster. ---

At this rate, it wonā€™t be long until we have roller coasters that hit terminal velocity. At that point roller coasters will be moved into the upper atmosphere where terminal velocity is higher. ---

I am so there. One way or another, Iā€™m going there to ride this monster. Right now, Iā€™m trying to convince my brother and/or sister to make the road trip with me, but if that doesnā€™t pan out, Iā€™ll find someone to go with me. The best time of the year to go is before Memorial Day weekend. After Memorial Day, the lines at the park are insane. I went one year on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend because we had free passes. It wasnā€™t worth it, even for free. It was unusually hot, and we spent more time waiting in line than anything else. Great Adventure designs the line for its attractions so you canā€™t tell how long the line is when you enter the queue. Just when you think youā€™re getting somewhere, you turn a corner and see a whole new rat maze full of people ahead of you. Last year, by contrast, we went the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, and the park was almost empty. Just about only other people in the park were high school kids on their class trips. We got there around 10:30 and left at 3, and managed to hit every attraction in the park we wanted to ride, often getting the front seat. And for the love of Og, avoid the Viper at all costs! I have never had the displeasure of riding such a bone-jarring roller coaster in all my life. We were all sore from getting banged around after we got off of it. ---

The Great American Scream Machine is the worse coaster ever made. Itā€™s called The Scream Machine because of all the screaming in pain you do banging your head and ribs in that badly designed seat. ---

I am terrified but I absolutely have to ride this coaster. This is the sort of thing where Iā€™ll try to escape from line a dozen times and need to be restrained by stronger, braver friends. Iā€™ll be hyperventilating when I get strapped into the car, and Iā€™ll be mumbling Hail Marys under my breath as the ride gets underway. My heart will most likely stop completely during that unbelievable drop and I may require jumper cables to get it going again. But once itā€™s over I will hop up and down and scream **"Again! Again!!"** ---

Last year, my nephew and I rode Nitro at the park. It was pretty unnerving as you top the first peak when you realize that you canā€™t see the track in front of you until the bottom. I screamed myself hoarse and somehow had spitle running on the side of my face (?? at least I know it was mine as we were in the front row). That was a high ride at 230 feet. This new one is 456 feet high!? I am so there. But I am also a chicken, so Iā€™ll only be so there if there are equally foolish Dopers there with me. I promise to sit in the back row :D. Hmmm, the .0864MiHiDopefest? The BarrensBarfinā€™ Dopefest? The Ummmmā€¦Iā€™ll Watch You From Down Here Dopefest?? When does this coaster open for the first victims anyway? ---

Yeah, it looks awesome, and Iā€™ll be there next year for sure, but they made the same mistake that they made with Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. The twist on the downside actually detracts from the ride. On Xcelerator at Knottā€™s Berry Farm, which is the prototype for this type of coaster, you go straight up, turn 90 degress, go over the top, then turn 90 degress back, and go straight down. TTG and Kingda Ka rotate the opposite direction coming down, making a 270 degree twist before coming to straight down vertical. The twist going down is so disorienting that you lose track of where you are for a second, and donā€™t quite get the same sesation of going straignt down at a 90 degree angle for the whole way. Itā€™s only 205 feet, but I enjoy Xcelerator more than TTD. Kingda Ka is just TTG with an extra 30 feet of height.
