Sixteen Candles geek rape question

I was far less disgusted by the sex between them than by Ted insisting his friends take a picture to prove he was actually in a car with the (at that point still clueless-blitzed) Homecoming Queen. (But the writers made it so they were so clumsy she wasn’t even in the shot.) It was along the lines of his earlier talking Samantha out of her panties (not her pussy, just her panties) and then charging other kids money for a show (obviously he didn’t want the money, just the fame).

I think the jokes work because the joke is on Farmer Ted–he wants to be what is now called a “playah”, but he can’t even get a good shot of the girl he’s supposed to be taking advantage of. I think the same dynamic is working with the wake up scene in the parking lot. I never read Jake as pawning off Carolyn onto Ted sexually–I always thought he entrusted Ted to get her home safely.

Even putting aside the question of whether the Revenge of the Nerds involved a rape by deception, in the years since the movie came out I’ve come to see that having sexual exploitation of women (hidden cameras, selling naked pictures taken without consent, ect.) as a key point in your revenge is, although deeply rooted in history, somewhat, um, problematic.

Hmmm… is there really any question whatsoever? i thought it was pretty clear cut myself.

I vote that he did not pawn her off to a stranger for sex, but instead was fed up with her drunken self centered behavior and wanted his new confidant Farmer Ted to take her home so that he would not have to deal with her and would be free to pursue the Molly R. character. Though the posing with her was somewhat creepy, if they did in fact have sex, I don’t have enough info to think that Farmer Ted raped her.

I thought that I was the only one who thought that that Ferris Bueller was a slimey, lying, manipulative, self centered little @#%* whom I had no sympathy for.

Thank you so much for all the insight guys…there are lots of angles I hadn’t thought of before. Perhaps “rape” was too strong of a word…I just meant there was some sexual context that made me feel uncomfortable.
And as a former alcoholic/party girl I would just like to state that there were lots of things I did drunk (sexually) that I didn’t want to do or would never ever have done sober. Not that that makes it rape, it just makes those situations…strange.

Actually, after the possibility was brought up, I thought Ferris was something of a brat too. The movie is still rather entertaining.

I really liked the movie, but this particular scene, always skeeved me out. I try to view it as Jake entrusting his drunk girlfriend to a nice guy whom he trusts to get her home safely, but it never really sticks… No matter how hard I try to retrofit it, it still seems like Jake is pimping out the Homecoming Queen to a freshman in order to get rid of her. Skeevy.

Again, I liked the movie, but it’s an extremely schizo film. Almost all of the stuff with Sam is sweet and rings pretty true. Then there is the crap with the Chinese foreign exchange student, which seems like it should belong to a completely different movie altogether. Sure, it was funny, but I feel like I’m going to Hell for laughing at it.

Besides that scene, the movie relies on tacky stereotyping rather than wit for so much of it’s humor. The Asian exchange student, the athletic girl, the fiancee’s family, the girl with the back brace and so on. None of this is funny, but a lot of it is cringe worthy.

And this may be exactly why despite being told multiple times that this movie is “omg the best high school flick evah!!!1” and trying to watch it at different point of my life, I just can’t bring myself to really like it.

I opened this thread thinking that it was referring to what may or may not have happened to John Cusack’s character and his brother around the time they spent in the trunk of the car…

Yeah, because basically, Jake doesn’t know this “nice guy” from Adam, and Farmer Ted isn’t a nice guy, he’s a bona fide creep. Along with the “I could violate her ten different ways” line, Jake seems just as slimey as Farmer Ted.

I’m sorry- The Donger & his “jock” GF are totally hilarious!

Doesn’t hurt that she is a looker!

Sixteen Candles is an awesome movie and I KNOW anyone who saw it when it came out laughed their asses off. Just because it’s not PC doesn’t make it not funny. I am picturing most of you with big sticks up your asses. It’s a movie. Ridiculous stuff happens. When Jake finds Farmer Ted trapped under the glass coffee table it is funny. Yes, if this had happened in real life he might have died and that certainly isn’t funny. It’s a movie. Get the fuck over it.

Sheesh!

I think it’s funny too…I was just commenting on that one scene.
Some of us can have more than one reaction from a movie…Sheesh!
