Ska makes me want to be out having fun

Bim Skala Bim played at Umaine my freshman year. Outdoor show right next to my dorm. Friggin awesome show.

That’s the thing. I hear Sublime described as a ska band, but the were much more than that.

80s 2Tone Revival Ska is my Ska - Madness, The Beat, The Selecter , The Specials. Often a sense of fun, but also some social messages and quite a great raw musicality - as much a child of punk as of original ska.

One side thing I love is how racially mixed the bands often were (besides Madness)

Skatalites are coming next month; I am so fucking there. And Mr Dibble, you missed the mighty Bad Manners.

The Skatalites, Guns of Navarone.

And now I’m on to The Clash covering Pressure Drop, which is not strictly ska but fuck it.

This, for me, exactly, word for word.

I have a CD recorded by local ska band The Planet Smashers. I had the CD on when I was trying to do some work, and the music kept making me want to dance!
