Does nobody recall that topic bans for specific posters are absolutely a thing on this board? Did you all likewise battle for the rights of that one guy to shit talk about his wife? Or the bondage ban? You think this is any different? Because it’s not–and if men feel all uncomfortable when women talk about how their board behavior grosses us out then why not STFU and stop for one fucking second and think that’s how we feel almost constantly? You all are literally arguing that you should have the right to disrespect our point of view, discount our feelings and ignore or handwave away basically anything you don’t want to hear–you feel entitled to have these rights. Yeah. No. ---

ETA: I am happy that we are moving to specifics though. I see a lot of problems though, not least that “Making posters uncomfortable” has never been a criteria here. Conservatives on the board constantly remind us that they are made uncomfortable all the time. ---

I’ll endorse trigger warnings in OPs that discuss sexual assault and similar difficult topics (if it’s not clear in the thread title). It takes almost no effort (just say “Hey this hypothetical involves a survivor of sexual assault” or something like that) and is more than worth it if it helps just one poster avoid being creeped out, or worse. ---

And it goes on day after day, and he’s holding forth at the lunch table, and sometimes the stories are about rape and sometimes they aren’t, more often than not there are women being put down and abused, but whenever she tries to speak up for herself it’s plain that the management aren’t interested in doing anything about the guy - hell, she’s heard one junior manager offering to proof-read them for him - and while some of her colleagues are sympathetic, a lot of them just shrug and say ‘So what? They’re just stories, and some of them are quite interesting.’ Now, how would you feel for your this particular woman you look up to, having to put up with that day after day in a place where she ought to be able to just sit and eat her lunch and read her book in peace? ---

And the current solution is use the “ignore” feature. There is nothing at all hard about that. The only downside is it would result in less snark. That’s why the ignore feature isn’t being used and why some of these unhinged giraffe posters can’t let it go. ---
