I’m seriously looking forward to this movie. Jude Law is one of my favorite actors, and I completely dig the style.
I didn’t think I got excited about non-big-series-movies any more! Please let this film be good…

I’ve seen the trailer. As **Wasabee** said, it’s either going to be brilliant or abysmal. I’ll be there opening night regardless, because it should be something to see.

They presented an extended clip (5+ minutes of one action sequence) at WonderCon in SF last month and it was seriously kick-ass: OTT and hyper-nostalgic but irresistable fun. It reminded me a lot of the Fleischer/Superman cartoons from the 40s with lots of art deco visuals and an almost monochromatic pallette, with the dialogue straight out of “Remember When: WWII”, but all to very good effect.
They explained that the summer was such a glut that they wanted to give the film a little breathing room in the fall as a counter-programming effort (plus, the film’s almost total CGI, so they could use the time). The thing about the VFX, though, is that even though there was so much of it, it didn’t have that pervasive video game quality that so many had (though some scenes did, natch). The environment was realized to come across as very believable and lived in.
Personally, I can’t wait.

I’ve seen the trailer a couple of times, and I’m really excited about this film. I love that old Pulp look it’s got, as well as the old fashion sci-fi look of the robots. The fact that it’s the old rotar planes flying around gunning down alien spaceships that also use bullets in this hyper-stylish environment looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.
I’m guessing a lot of people are going to hate this movie, though. It looks like the way people talk is reminiscent of the good old films from the thirties and fourties (like **His Girl Friday** ), and I can see a lot of people bitching about that alone. Still, I like the look, and feel it’s going to be really kick ass. Even if it blows, the visual appeal alone is enough to get me in the theaters.

Here are a couple of warnings:
a) It’s meant to be cheesy, so there will be deliberately bad, melodramatic acting in it
b) There are no real sets - every single one of them is a CGI creation.
c) It’s made by one guy, more or less, who has never made a movie before.
d) It keeps being delayed due to the amount of work the effects take.
Consider yourselves warned.

Aside from c, I don’t really see a problem here. And even c isn’t that bad, assuming the guy has good vision and ability to pull it off. I mean, how much help does Terry Gilliam get in creating his visions? To my knowledge, he keeps getting in trouble because he does things his way, and despite the trouble, his movies are brilliant, so I’m willing to give this guy the benefit of the doubt.
And I like cheesy, but that’s where I see this movie having problems. Most of the general audience can’t seem to accept “It’s supposed to be that way” as an excuse for what would otherwise be deemed “really bad acting.” This is where I see the movie having it’s biggest problem.

Only “c” would be a cause for concern.
After all, _Manos, the Hands of Fate_ was made by a guy who never made movies before.

I saw the trailer and I am eagerly awaiting this movie. It looks like a 30s pulp adventure brought to glorious life.

Well, shit, **Elvii** , that don’t stop people from going to see crap fests like _The Day After Tomorrow: When Icebergs Attack_ or watching _10.5_ or whatever that earthquake movie on NBC was called. Personally, I _hate_ cheesy, but you can expect me to be there with bells on with this movie comes out. I love the look and feel of those old serials!

They were going to call it _The World of Tomorrow_, but because of the similarity to _The Day After Tomorrow_, they _re_-added “Sky Captain” to the title. (The original title was apparently _Sky Captain and the Flying Legion and the World of Tomorrow_. Whew!)
[CHUD.com](http://CHUD.com) visited the set of _Sky Captain_ and interviewed both producer [Jon Avnet](http://www.chud.com/news/jan04/jan31setvisit.php3) and creator [Kerry Conran](http://www.chud.com/news/feb04/feb1sky.php3). While Conran is technically the director of the film, he’s obviously more at home in front of the computer. I suspect Avnet - a director himself - has served as somewhat of a guide for Conran into the field of traditional directing, and as an intermediary between for Conran and everyone else when necessary.
CHUD posted updates on the film’s progress after the set visit. I don’t have links to those updates but, IIRC, Conran’s perfectionism and dedication to the project were the most likely causes of any delays.

I saw the previews on a rented DVD recently - kinda looks fun! But apparently they don’t have a _score_ for this thing yet…
I kept listening to the music and thinking, “I’ve heard that before…” and then I finally pegged it…
…for the previews, at least, they’ve recycled the theme music from _Stargate_.

According to the Washington Post, some of the delays were imposed by the studio, to keep it from competing with _Spiderman 2_
