Also, if you intent to pick up metals, I would recommend “glowing ore veins”, since ore is barely visible in the original game.

A necessity if, like me, you suffer from minor color-blindness.

Are there any mods that let you filter potions by effect? I create a lot of combo potions which are only listed by their primary effect, but I have a lot of random like “resist frost 14%, barter +5%” and when I need a barter potion it’s a pain in the ass to figure out which ones have barter as a secondary effect.

i haven’t tried any, but if you search for “sort”, there are a lot of mods that rename items so you can easier find them. not sure if they take secondary effects into account.

I would say that full-blown mods are unnecessary for a first playthrough. What I would recommend is a few of the console commands for a few quality-of-life improvements. Something along the lines of:

player.modav carryweight 9900

will let you loot and plunder to your heart’s content without constantly getting encumbered and needing to either pass up loot or head back to town to sell things.

or you could use Bandolier - Bags and Pouches, a simple armor mod to add inventory space.
