Just like to point out that some internet petitions are significant. For example, there is a convention that any petition to receive 100k signatures on the official website for the UK parliament (direct.gov.uk) will be discussed in the Commons. Sadly the most popular petition was a poorly thought out one… Hardly the best advertisement for direct democracy.
