Legal state-sanctioned slavery was ended in the USA with the civil war. What about the rest of the world? Are there any nations today with official, state-sanctioned slavery? If not, was the US the last nation to outlaw slavery?

Welcome to the boards **FlippyFly** ,

I can’t vouch for when each country outlawed slavery, but according to the [Wikipedia article on slavery](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery)…

> [@](#):
>
> Slavery is in all countries considered to be a criminal activity, outlawed by UN conventions. However some states such as Myanmar and Sudan do facilitate the institution of slavery, according to anti-slavery groups such as Free the Slaves.
