My boss has just told me that they’re going to ask my agent to reduce my hours to 60% (that’s 3 days/week). On one hand, it’s less money. On the other, it will be easier to hop Down Home (I haven’t mentioned it to him, but you bet I’m planning on working W-F one week and M-W the next), I really need a ton of rest, and if they’re thinking “flexible” it may be easier to get my ass transferred down to the Barcelona offices (we already have people there) in December. And if I’m working part-time and in Barcelona… then this job can be compatible with getting a presential Masters in Translation! Gee, you guys think I’m going to mind? The agents will, but they can KMA. After all, if they’d been able to explain to me how to use the swiss medical system, I wouldn’t be going to the doc in Spain. And if they hadn’t been fixated on “you have to live in Switzerland because that’s where your assignment is”, I wouldn’t have had a 1h+ commute 4d/wk for 6 months. Either I would have been living in the German village where the factory is (and commuted to Switzerland that 5th day a week), or in France; in any case, it would have been in a country where I’m only semi-foreign. ---

Nope, not settled in. I got all my stuff from when I lived in Seattle out of storage and then have had no room to move in my place, due to the piles of books. So I’ve pretty much just been playing Warcraft and goofing off, waiting for the rest of my stuff to come in from Tokyo so I could start working, and so I can cart off most of the books to donate to the library (since I have a bunch of English programming books among my Tokyo stuff that I also wanted to donate.) I finally got my Japan stuff cleared through customs and delivered to my place last Wednesday, but then immediately flew down to Southern California to visit my grandparents. So now I’m goofing off here, and won’t be back to Seattle until Wednesday again. And ultimately I’m just trying to decide whether or not I need to work on the fact that all I can seem to achieve is “goofing off”, or if my brain is right in its subconscious decision that I deserve to be able to do that still. ---

**Sage Rat** my uncle who lives in Kyoto just came to visit Seattle. (Erm, he’s my uncle that used to live here that now lives there. Big gaijin, you can’t miss him. Especially since he does vocals at jazz nights there.) It’s like a Japanese/Seattle/SDMB thing! ---
