Morning! Hope there aren’t too many people here with **HANGOvers**! 😃 Hope everyone’s 4th was good (or peaceful if such is your preference) as well. It’s Thursday, pre-payday, and I’m caffeinating. Brought more of my chili for lunch. I think I may have made too much. Even after dinner for two the night it was made, lunch the next day, a container of some to my dad, chili dawgs last night (which, incidentally, were yum) and another tub of chili today, I _still_ have enough left for two or three big bowls. Lawdy, but I’m gonna be chili’ed out mighty soon. I bought some Missing Ingredient though: Green Tabasco. On sale for $0.40 off, plus a $1.00 off coupon, so I got it at like half price. Sweet! Or spicy, as it were. **Bobbio** - Wow, that sounds like a hell of a night. It seems a bit ironic (or perhaps too convenient) that a forest fire should decide to break out on July 4th. The car accident sounds pretty bad though, but on such a holiday as this I suppose it’s the sort of thing you expect to find more frequently unfortunately. Except for the bear. That’s an unexpected twist. I hope no one (other than the bear) was hurt in that one. **Heff** - I must have missed it, but may I ask what keeps you house-bound? If it’s not too personal or touchy, of course; I’m just nosy sometimes. Hope the neighbours managed to keep the seismic fields of noise down to a palatable level. It’s one of the few reasons I like my apartment: Concrete walls. And floors. And ceilings. We’ve only ever really been bothered by noise twice. Once, when a young couple moved in next door to us and must have had the stereo flush against the wall – and pointed at it, 'cos the thumping was quite palpable. The second time was just last year, when the neighbours on the other side must have been utterly soaring on clouds of weed smoke, ‘cos their stereo was blasting so freakin’ loud you could hear it in the elevator several floors away. Without (much) hyperbole, I think their stereo really _did_ go to 11. And it was redlining even there. I seriously wanted to go over there and kick someone in the yambag. But instead I called security. They came, but only managed to grab the Wannabe Spinal Tap’s attention after pounding on the door with both fists for a good five minutes. They were told to keep it the hell _way_ down, and they agreed and made empty apologies and closed the door. No sooner had security walked to the elevators and pushed the call button (not 5 seconds later; the apartment was right next to the elevators) than _the music returned full force!_ That takes prescription-strength stupid, that does. Security returned, pounded madly, and told them _again_ in much sterner tones with overtones of eviction. Finally the music just stopped entirely. Those tenants didn’t last long. **BooFae** - Wait, you’re saying Scottish cuisine is _better_ than British? But … they invented haggis! And deep-fried pizza! And possibly haggis _on_ deep-fried pizza! Surely steak & kidney pies, Yorkshire pudding, and real English butter toffees must count for _something!_ ETA: Ha! Top of page 7. Booya! [sub]Wait. And the Scots gave us lots of good things: - butter tablet - cloutie dumplings - apple butterscotch pie - Selkirk bannock - clapshot - Ecclefechan butter tart - Strathbogie mist BTW, all the above are edible and not deep fried! ---

Hi y’all. Hope everyone is doing well this morning. I’m not technically hungover, but my butt is draggin’ today. I did drink quite a few beerverages yesterday. We had a couple of our married friends come over for grilled dead animal (chicken) and other pic-a-nic foods. And they brought their kids (one couple’s daughter is three, the other couple’s daughter will be 1 next week. I had a case of beer when they got there (12 Yuengling lagers, 6 Newcastle Brown Ales, and 6 Carolina Blondes), but not so much after they left. Since I wasn’t driving, I felt no compunctions against doing my best to empty all those bottles. It seemed like a good idea at the time. ---

You guys know how health professionals often give you health recommendations/orders without even checking which ones apply? One of the things I love about Mom’s dietician is that she doesn’t, she really works with you (the other one is that, having known Mom since we were wee, she can call bullshit as required). When I came out of my GP-SiL’s office after being given the “diet list” for lowering cholesterol (not just lay off the fats, but the sugar as well) and while she wrapped up paperwork, Mom asked me “well?” “similar to what you had. But she said no fruit at all!” “None? Oh, there must be some fruit you can eat!” “Yeah. _Melon_.” “Oh for…” In case someone hadn’t guessed, I don’t like melon at all. Oh, and when SiL-Doc said “no chocolate at all” and I inquired some more, it turned out that black is ok so long as it’s 1 or 2 squares… ok, that I can live with… oh, and chocolate mousses are also all right… I’m killing time before making a call-in to a work meeting (I’m off except for that call, today) and then hopping over by the Mafia thread to see who are the bullets whizzing about. I almost got busted by the fire marshall last night (breakin’ the law, breakin’ the law). One of my neighbors down the street was shooting bottle rockets, I was standing there chatting with him. The FM came up the street, and we ran around back and went down and hid in the basement while he was pounding on the door. Fortunately, we didn’t get in trouble with The Man this time. I had some trouble explaining the nuances of my actions to my kids, though… (Hey, I was drunk is not the correct explanation, BTW) :o Well, I just got started with th 'ol MMP groove, but I won’t be in on the next one, as me & the fambly are heading down to Orlando for some theme park hell. If it’s been dry there, y’all are guaranteed to have a solid week of rain now… ---

Today is sewing and cooking and grocery shopping. It’s warm but not hot, and I just threw up. But I feel much better now! ---

My phoe woke me up this morning, my Google Calendar sent me a text message reminding me of a doctor’s appointment this morning that I completely forgot about. I meant to call and cancel it, it was only a follow-up that I wasn’t sure I had to even keep - but I figured it would be rude to cancel within an hour, so I just went. Turns out that Sweet Megan the PA gave me another injection in the ear anyway, so it wasn’t a total loss. Now. Back to work. PS: I’m in line for the white chocolate when it arrives, 'k? ---

Today is one of \*those \* days. I left my cell phone at home, and I’m expecting an important call on it today, I managed to fling my laptop keys into a tiny slot in the drawer that I couldn’t shove them in if I tried, when I took out the tray to get to the keys, office supplies went everywhere, including eleventy million tacks (the woman here before me had a real office supply fetish), and there is a document on my desk that says, “Please draft and email to me” with no clue as to who “me” is. On the other hand, I received an email this morning from a friend at my former job, and she mentioned in passing that AC was fired on Monday. So now we know it takes almost two years to be fired for malicious incompetence there. Quick recap: she barely made it through the background check for various reasons and when she didn’t show up for the first two days for work, they let her start anyway. When she did start, she offended everyone she came in contact with that day. And they kept her. In short, working with her was like this :eek: 😕 :smack: :mad: :mad: :mad: every day. And now she’s loose! Look out, world! **SO** , best wishes for your mother. I’m in line for the white chocolate, too, especially white chocolate Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. Mmmm, white chocolate and peanut butter. ---

I have to dredge up a topic from yesterday: toasted or fried ravioli is teh YUM! It’s breaded and fried ravioli so it’s crunchy on the outside and soft and cheesy on the inside. If you haven’t tried it before (you can often find it as a appetizer at restaurants), I highly recommend it. We managed to have a very quiet 4th. KeithT got home in the early afternoon, and we went to see Oceans 13. It was fun. We both went to bed early 'cause we have to work today and fortunately, I didn’t hear a single firecracker all night. We did have the windows closed and the AC on so that may have helped, but it was nice that it was quiet for those of us working folks who had to get up this morning! I’m sorry to hear about your mother **Special1**. Everyone else can keep the white not-chocolate. Send the dark over this way! ---

my favorite white chocolate was from a little mom & pop store that handmade everything - they even custom designed their molds - a white chocolate “Chunky” type concoction with cashews and dried cranberries. Yummy and it looked purty, too. but they’re out of business now, sadly. ---

Good morning everyone. I had a long post and then my 'puter wigged out on me. I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on, until I noticed the “Enter” key was stuck. Whew! I did not want to have some unexpected computer repair. **SO,** I’m sorry about your mother. My thoughts are with you. **Mika,** I’m 43 and get zits. The sad thing is, when I was teenager, I never got zits. Really, it’s true. Now that I’m a full fledged adult, heading toward middle age, I get zits. What the hell is up with that?! You all can keep your white “chocolate”. Just send me dark. The darker, the better. We had a nice 4th. We ended up BBQing with the neighbors out front, and then we lit fireworks. It was fairly tame, and we were done by 11:00. I had maybe three beers all day. I didn’t even get to finish the third one because I set it down to help one of the kids with a firework, and when I came back it was gone. I decided to take the day off. I had stuff that needed doing, but it’s not so urgent that it can’t wait until Monday. The boss had already said to call in if I felt like it, so I did. The weather is extremely nice again. **Mr. Taters** is going to go out to the lake with our neighbor. The neighbor has a fancy new boat, so the hubby will have fun. Tomorrow, I have an appointment to take my daughter in for a TB skin test. She needs to have this done before she can volunteer at the hospital. She also needs to take a HIPAA test. So, Monday morning, I’ll take her back to have her skin test read, and then I’ll take her into work with me so she can turn her application in. That’s all that’s going on in Taterland. I’m sure you’re all just wowed by the mundanity that is my life. ---
