Going to take a leave of absence and reflect are you? Didn’t realize you were being inappropriate? Recognise now that your innocent actions _could_ be misinterpreted? What a steaming pile of freshly dumped horseshit you are. You think you’re making it better, but your slimy rationalizations and carefully chosen references to missteps, and errors, and over friendliness scream what an oily shit you really are. No one is fooled by your being artistic or comedic, or whatever other lame excuse you’re telling yourself to mitigate your responsibility. You are transparently only regretful because you’ve been caught out. And no one believes your horseshit. Any more than they believe it was only a few times, or wasn’t 100% exploitive in every possible way. You attained both power and success and this is what you chose to use it for. CHOSE. I hope the stench of this never leaves you and that you never, ever get to make another piece of art, represent your constituents, or be famous for anything other than the piece of human trash you clearly are. Is this a public figure? I was going to guess Al Franken but he has not put out any statement like that. Not that I disagree at all with your point of view, but not knowing who it is or what the real circumstances are, it’s a little difficult to chime in with 100% confidence. ---

Now that I’ve read about Lasseter at Pixar I assumed it was mostly him. But OK. No excuses, ever. If you can’t acknowledge, apologize and disappear, then don’t say anything at all? I don’t think we can really expect anyone to self-incriminate on actions that may lead to jail time or lawsuits, can we? ---

I can understand a large degree of anger, but I don’t accept that folks are irredeemably bad because of such actions. And I’m not even a Christian! ---

I’m also absolutely convinced that _some_ of the worst offenders really did not comprehend how loathsome their actions were or how harmful. I’m also convinced that some of the accused are not irredeemably horrific. In every case, the accused should be permitted a defense because is that is one of the bedrock principles of our justice system, that _everyone_ has a right to defense. The rest of it is moral panic and one upmanship in internet outrage. ---

I’m not saying they should be hung, or are irredeemable. At least not privately and before your God. But publicly, socially, professionally? Hell yes! I’m saying, no one believes your oily bullshit, so shut the fuck up. You had your chance, you made your choices. Now live with the consequences. I’m tired of the weaseling myself. Tired of the men doing it. Even more tired of society being tired of hearing about it. Really fucking tired of people making excuses for men who do it. I understand that the news is overwhelming with a new story every 5 minutes. I choose to be cautiously optimistic that all of this dreck is like pus draining from a boil, and we’ll end up a somewhat healthier society. I hope that this won’t get swept under the rug and we won’t be right back to where we were, with rape, and groping, and assault, and harassment, and discrimination all common parts of our daily society. I imagine some of the men have changed with time and would not behave the same way now. Conversely, some of them are obviously serial predators. I do believe that some people can change. I hope even more that society can change. Fuck the Kevin Spacey’s of the world. May we wake up to a better world tomorrow. ---

Go for it, elbows. Somebody has to say this, why shouldn’t it be you? I gotta say though, I don’t agree exactly. I think that a HUGE number of men, possibly including the oily shit stains you refer to, have managed to fully and completely believe that getting sexually stimulated by coercing and frightening women over whom they have power just isn’t wrong, because, fuck, just fill in the blank. One hell of a long list of beliefs and rationalizations with encouragement and agreement or at least averting of eyes by the men around them. I keep coming back to the fact that very few rapists believe that what they did was even rape, much less that it was wrong. The fact that men who rape commonly believe that the women deserved it, for arousing them. So I can’t quite believe that they all knew that what they were doing was evil and wrong. For certain values of knowing. Maybe this is the first time they ever had to reflect that just maybe they shouldn’t have. NOT excusing them. But this society, like all the others that I’m aware of, shields men from having to know. I might put Franken in that category. Not Weinstein, obviously. And I’d like to see Moore in stocks in the marketplace. ---
