[Does sleeping naked prevent diabetes? - The Straight Dope](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/3197/does-sleeping-naked-prevent-diabetes) has the usual Slug cartoon, but I am somewhat bemused by the detail Why does the lady have a string tied to one toe while a sock is being removed from the other foot? Why is there Arabic text below the bed? What does it say? What does the English text beside it mean? ---

FWIW I don’t see that as a string tied to her toe but a line that is supposed to be the side of the bed and I see no Arabic text, just scribble representing the sheets. The poster is a bit weird humor though: “Sleep Study Insulin Injector” with a picture of something somewhat limp cucumber shaped with an attachment on its end hanging off a jar of “Insulube.” Your mind can fill that in or not. ---

Slug’s toons do leave varying amounts to the imagination, don’t they, just like Peter Pan and the Wizard of Oz. _I could tell you things about Peter Pan And the Wizard of Oz! (There’s a dirty old man!)[indent]-- Tom Lehrer_[/indent] Just add Slug to that list. In [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=24178), one of his _less ambiguous_ cartoons is discussed (including link to the picture; NSFW). It appears that Slug is sometimes called upon to provide an alternate picture that newspaper editors can run instead if they don’t appreciate the humor. [Here’s another thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=24012) in which another user makes the same observation.
