I’ll admit that I usually like the way slug renders females, especially in the racier columns! But the illustration for the[column on _spintriae_](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/080118.html) has me flummoxed. I guess the whip has some obvious kinky overtones, but what the hell is up with the porcine footwear? Was porker skiing considered a sex act in the Roman Empire? ---

Here’s the answer, or part of it. In the world of trick horse riding, the act of riding two horses at once while standing with one foot on each horse is called “ **Roman style** ” horse riding. That brings up a number of possible puns, and that fits Slug’s style. She’s a Roman whore. The whore’s riding is Roman style. Roman style sex, IIRC, involves multiple partners. As for the whip, well, the customer’s been a very bad boy. Note his studded collar. Why’s she riding pigs? Hard to say. However, riding and getting porked are what a whore does for a living. Knowing Signorino, there are sight gags I haven’t spotted. ---

[/QUOTE] The best guess that I could come up with, prior to reading this thread, was that it had something to do with the greek shoes, thought to have been used by ladies of a certain profession as a form of advertising, which left messages in the footprints (eg, [“follow me”](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution_in_ancient_Greece) )… The erotic value of pigprints, however, I haven’t figured out.
