I think maybe it has something to do with this line from the question: **Lustful Roman soldiers in far-flung corners of the empire apparently used them [the coins] to overcome the problem of expressing their specific desires in the local dialect.** In other words, if you don’t use the coin with the approriate act displayed on it, and you try to describe the act in the local dialect, you’re likely to wind up with a woman riding two pigs instead of…well, instead of what you really wanted. ---
