I saw two of them yesterday. A small SUV that has an open rear deck like a mini-pickup truck. The name is embossed on the tailgate but is not real high relief and is monotone so all I could make out is the end of the name, “----cross”. Searching turns up the Toyota Corolla Cross but that is a hatchback.

It was probably a Santa Cruz. That’s pretty much the only thing that looks like that that’s reasonably common, I think. Cruz is kind of close to Cross.

I mean to be technically correct (the best kind of correct!) Cruz is Spanish for cross so you’re dead on.

That said there’s also the Isuzu Vehicross, but I don’t think it had a bed.

That’s gotta be it. Looking at photos of the Santa Cruz tailgates some do have the letters painted in contrasting paint.

For those like me who wondered what they’re talking about, the current Santa Cruz is a Hyundai product: **[Google Image Search](https://www.google.com/search?q=santa+cruz+SUV&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=hp&oq=santa+cruz+SUV&sclient=img)**

I don’t think I’ve seen that mini pickup variant in the wild. Reminds me of the late and unlamented
