I’d say it’s a tie between the threads I’ve started that got 0 replies, and the time as a young programmer I tried to defend the difference between hacker/cracker long after I should have bowed out. Fortunately nothing yet I have to bribe the mods to ‘disappear’. 😃 ---

Yes: one time I got worked up and posted a Pit thread suggesting we break the 8th amendment for a certain notorious case. I inadvertently offended a Doper and I did apologize but I’m not sure he read the apology. However, what’s even worse is that I broke my self-imposed rule on not giving the case more publicity: don’t want the non-defendants to continue to gain unwanted attention. Therefore I’m not going to tell you what it is if you don’t remember 🙂 ---

Recently I skillfully added [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=7922874&postcount=20) post to the wrong thread – a thread that had been dead for 16 months (sounds so much nicer than “approximately a year and a half” doesn’t it?) and revived revived the old thread – which went on to get 41 more posts after my non sequitor. I was trying to post to [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=394213&page=2) thread and, (here we enter bonus point territory) with my mistake I essentially killed the modern thread. (Bonus bonus points) **Chowder** – the thread starter - was really cool & understanding about me strangling his thread to death with my bare hands. Pretty bad, OK but I know you are thinking “_Well, it is not like you accidentally [cross posted](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=378793&highlight=nocturnal) as taanstafl notes, in an obscene, soon to be locked, thread that you wouldn’t want anyone to know you even opened – let alone to show up into perpetuity on any search of your user name, right_?” – and I thank you for trying to comfort me like that. ---
