So… Nonsmokers put a tax on cigarettes (through pressure on their elected officials, whether those officials smoke or not is not important) which is bad enough, then you, a non-smoker, decide to bitch about, among other things such as how someone else’s car (that you’re not even in) smells, the price of cigarettes? ---

I’m torn. I’m a smoker, who quit for three years, and recently started up again (stupid, I know), so I appreciate the complaints of non-smokers. If there is such a thing, I consider myself a courteous smoker. I don’t smoke around kids. I don’t smoke in my house. I throw my butts, after verifying they are fully exstinguished (usually by pouring a bit of my drink on them), in the garbage. If I’m smoking outside, and there is someone around who is not smoking, I move as far away from them as possible. I always wash my hands after I smoke and I do my best to minimize the smoker odour. I smoke as little as possible. But, the ardent smoker in me still gets pissed off when someone tells me I shouldn’t smoke. Sigh. Fucking addictions. ---

Strange, that’s a coming-of-age episode for many young drinkers and smokers. Makes me thing of the time I took a swig off of a full beer with a cig in it…hirrifying then, funny as hell now. I had a similair experience with half a bottle of 7-Up and returning from mowing the lawn. 🙂 However, the guy who put his smoke out my 7-Up was the guy who carried me into the emergency room in his arms when I was two and split my forehead open, so I got over it. P.S. When they put the needle and thread to me, he fainted. ---

I am a recreational smoker. I smoke probably a packet a fucking month. I dunno, maybe I smoke less than that. but this thread, and in fact most anti-smoking material (including those TV announcements with graphic shots of cancerous lungs) for some reason make me want to go an light one up. I am going to do so right now. Generally, I’m a damned courteous smoker. No car, no kids, no confined spaces, etc etc. I’ll go out of my way to avoid bothering anybody. Anybody that is, except the OP, into whose face I would gladly blow the smoke of a big, fat, arrogant, carcinogenic ceeeeegar. ---

What I really dislike is people who walk around crowded places with a cigarette lit in their hand, with their hand down by their side. Just about hip height, so you might not see it until you’ve walked into them. Then of course, it is about child eye height. Now THAT would be traumatising. ---

I have found that the best way to make the interior of a car smell like ass is to repeatedly fart into the upholstery. It works best with cloth seats. Oh, and **feppytweed** : If the best you can do for a “traumatic experience” is taking a swig of Dr. Pepper in which a smoke was dropped…you’re a fucking crybaby. Get over it. ---

Advice - don’t drink Dr. Pepper when you’re trying to sleep. Way too much caffeine. Most people my age had parents who smoked. It didn’t seem gross back then, mainly because nobody had told us it WAS gross. I’ve survived the trauma so far. I think you’ll be alright. Remember - don’t do drugs.
