# Snake eats centipede only to have it chew its way out.

are centipedes poisonous … I think I heard of some in Hawaii that are poisonous and dangerous to humans when they crawl up your leg.

[Here’s a giant centipede taking down a tarantula.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f5gBFMMmGc) We have these giant centipedes (same species?) near our home, sometimes waiting right outside our door! (AFAIK, only small juveniles have been inside the house.) The first one I ever saw was approaching my baby’s bassinet outdoors – I was astounded when I saw how fast it could move.

[Wikipedia implies that centipede venom isn’t too serious](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centipede_bite), but perhaps that doesn’t apply to our species. Ours are more feared than scorpions, can paralyze, and (while not life-threatening?) require medical attention.
