Not only alive, but outside in bright sunshine . . . hardly in someone’s bedroom in the middle of the night.
How cute would a hopping snake be? You could knit little booties for it, or find some cute little baby shoes, and have a cuddly little reptile hopping around your house like an overcaffienated Jack Russell terrier.
I think Colibri is correct. Too bad this didn’t happen after the snake swallowed a bird or a mammal. A wing or a hairy leg sticking out would be even more bizarre.
Movement with only one foot and scales sound :dubious: .
Are there any one foot only creatures in nature ?
There is something interesting to me about the idea of a legless lizard, which is what the amphisbaenians are considered. The fact that that one species is actually a two-legged legless lizard is beautiful to me.
Sure. Snails, and other gastropods.
Now, if you want to know about vertebrates with only one foot, I’d stumped. ![]()
Beautiful.
Perhaps. I immediately pictured a snake that had eaten a foot so that it was perfectly centered (and upright) between the head and tail.
I agree that the photo doesn’t seem to relate to the story as written.
Looks like he ate a lizard. Been there, done that.
I initially read your question as meaning that you thought you found a snake with a foot sticking out of its mouth.
I actually saw a comment to this effect on another site where the article has posted. If I’d been a subscriber I would have asked the theological implications of God’s curse wearing off or failing.
If you Google you can probably find a picture of a bird of prey with a songbird foot sticking out of its body. I came across it recently, but don’t care to look for it again. (Bird claws creep me out a little even without the “Alien” factor.)
Please exp… oh, never mind. I don’t think I want to know the details.

Next you’ll tell me a horse grew a hand.
Ooh! It’s a new Zen koan:
What is the sound of one foot skritching?
If I squint at the photo, it’s not hard to imagine that claw looks like a teeny tiny human hand. So think about that: a snake crawling around, looking for things to throttle with its one tiny HUMAN hand. And then it goes into an old lady’s house …
Well, Quetzalcoatl’s due back any time now…
Funny, I look at that photo and I hear an uppercrust British accent trying to sell me insurance.
“Don’t be fooled by that rapscallion lizard! Save money with us!”
Back To The OP
I agree that the pic seems to be of snake that swallowed a lizard that turned out to be too big, too mean, or with claws that were too sharp. I’ve seen photographs of constrictors that have burst open after eating alligators in the Florida swamps.
I was expecting just that.
Notice the bump where the lizard would be/is. This seems the most logical explanation.
That, or this is another sign of the end of days. Whichever.
It’s entirely possible that I will steal that.
This is soooo gross. UGH!
