sneaky self portraits in great art

Sorry – missed it in your OP.

Looking at the minuscule image though, almost lacking in detail, I find it hard to believe anyone thought it could represent any nongeneric person.

Interesting the way several of these – Van Eyck, Bosch, Leonardo, Morse – put themselves in the horizontal if not the overall center of the painting.

Here is a link on Hidden Self Portraits, I found when looking for the link to Dali’s self portrait in the The Persistence of Memory that I vaguely remembered hearing about in an art class.

It’s also thought that Van Eyck used something like a camera obscura to develop his use of perspective.
