I’m not sure where you’re going with this frat-boy thing, but I’m 41 years old. I don’t think they’ll let me in to a fraternity.

You sure like jumping to wild conclusions, don’t you? As for the rest of your inane rant, I think I’ll just let it lie there and fester like a rancid boil on this thread.

So what are The White Stripes and Eminem? A mid-life crisis? If there’s something worse than a frat-boy poser, it’s a middle aged man listening to teenaged angst records to show he’s with it.

What do you have, the option to delete my posts? ooooh. Big bad mod gonna get me. Heh.

I don’t know if that was a typo or you are equating crack and crank.

Of course there’s not a lot of crack going on – probably because of economics more than anything else.

There’s a _lot_ of crank-smoking, though. I do remember only six, seven years ago when tweakers were enough of a rarity that all the e-bunnies would look askance at them.

Now, colourful meth pipes are the new pacifier, neck-accessory wise – especially with the younger folks coming up.

I’m surprised that you haven’t noticed, being in California. Some folks I’ve talked to way back said Cali was ahead of the trend, and it was nice to come up here where (at the time) meth hadn’t really made much of an impact on the scene.

**cricetus** , your callow is showing.

What the hell are you going on about? What do you care what other people listen to? Why are you being such an ass? What is that beautiful house? Where does that highway go? Am I right?..Am I wrong?

I don’t give a rats ass, but you might equally ask why it’s important to such. I’ve deprived them of nothing.

Christ. I hit the wrong key. I guess my questions are, (a) why is it so important to anyone that I approve of their musical selections? and (b) why have I been so taken to task for being judgmental, and not the OP or those chiming in agreeing with him/her (I dunno which)? The thread pits one band. I casually mention that others suck, and people lose their fucking minds.

No more so than the basis of this thread. Pink Floyd is/are not God(s). Their music is not off limits to anyone to cover as they see fit. If it sucks, so be it. I’ve heard enough bad Beatles covers to last a lifetime, but I don’t start a Pit thread everytime I hear one.

I eagerly await some crappy band to start mutilating U2 songs.

I like The Scissor Sisters better than the White Stripes. At least they have a sense of humor. They don’t look all grave and serious like they just escaped from the Gulag and wrote a Nobel-prize-winning novel about it.

Bono and The Edge have been doing that since the mid 90s, imho. 😃

Ecstasy isn’t a psychedelic drug.

**cricetus** , you’re getting a hard time not for voicing an unpopular opinion, but for questioning other people’s motives for liking particular music. “I dislike the White Stripes” is one thing; “I don’t believe people really like the White Stripes” is quite another.

Let me get this straight - if I were 22 and listening to them, I’d be a ‘frat boy poseur’. If I’m 41 and listen to them, I’m just trying to ‘show that I’m with it’. I’m sorry - what was the correct age for listening to music again? I want to make sure I only pick stuff from the cricetus age-approved music selection.

By the way, did I mention that you’re a complete moron?

Like what Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne of ELO did to The Move’s songs. 😛
Actually, I kid. **Mr. Blue** , did you ever hear the non orchestrated version of _Evil Woman_ that got some airplay with the resurgance of ELO? I think it was Wood and Lynne before ELO, post The Move. It had some very heavy yet bluesy guitar riffs in place of the string section. I wish I had an accurate list of just which ones of them did it and when. Though ELO made it a hit, and deservedly so, that early version was amazing to hear.
Just a slight hijack off of an already hopelessly hijacked thread.

Of course, Wood had already left ELO by the time _Face the Music_ was released, but I’m almost certain they claimed it was Wod doing the earlier version.

Any thoughts?
And to **C** Boy: stop crapping on other people’s tastes. You don’t like something, I don’t like something, doesn’t someone else may not actually enjoy it. Hey, my dad enjoys the taste of liver and onions. I can’t for the life of me understand why, but I accept that he does. Use the same sort of reasoning when discussing musical tastes.

Y’know, for somebody as ridiculously obsessed with “poseurs” and “keeping it real”, you sure are inconsistent. The Scissor Sisters are just as much a self-conscious exercise in retro-style posing as The White Stripes. Instead of riffing on 1960s blues-based garage rock, they’re riffing on 1970s camp rock, disco and new wave. The quotes you claim to hear around White Stripes songs, I hear around Scissor Sister songs. For instance, _Mary_ is their “Elton John song.” FWIW, I don’t care if the artist is speaking from the heart, engaging in formalistic experimentation or being campy-but-ironic, if the music speaks to me then it’s worthwhile.

BTW, I’m 36 and I like Wilco, Eminem, The White Stripes, and The Scissor Sisters. Is that okay, or should I stick with The Beastie Boys, Bruce Springsteen, The Ramones and The Bee Gees?

WHY should I stop crapping on other people’s tastes? This is, they say, “the pit.” I consider it great to have a place where I can be brutally honest, and NOT observe the rules of decorum.

BTW, I do not think anything I don’t care for is crap. I just think The White Stripes are crap. Most bands fall into a big grey area called “I don’t give a shit,” but sometimes something is so bad, so over-rated, and so annoying that it just sticks in you like a splinter. Kevin Smith, The White Stripes, and George W. Bush, for example. On those things, I give no quarter. You’re flat out wrong. They suck. I don’t care if you have a right to an opinion. Those things are shite.

To keep the analogy, it’s one thing to like liver and onions, and another to literally eat shit and like it.

Perhaps you need to readjust your idea on what it means to have an adult conversation. Being in the Pit does not absolve people of the need to behave themselves. Sure, you’re allowed a little more leeway, but not carte blanc.

I dare say, if you tried something like this in real life, your friends would turn on you, your dog would leave you, your mother would disown you, babie would cry at the sight of you, birds would spontaneously self combust just to avoid you, and David Lee Roth would become your best friend. Do you really want a life like that?

Of course, rock reviewers completely disagree with you. _Elephant_ is one of the highest rated CD’s Metacritic has ever rated. Or as [Rolling Stone](http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/album/_/id/271218) said: “It is a glorious thing to hear. It will be one of the best things you hear all year.”

But I’m sure all those unanimous rock critics are all a bunch of poseurs too, right? As are the millions of people who bought the CDs. Because they don’t think like YOU do.
