I don’t watch a lot of SNL, but the Kenan’s singing is pretty addictive and that alone made it worth watching. ---

I’d rather watch an hour of “What Up With That” instead of another minute of “The Californians.” The Royal vagina sketch was really good. I was sort of shocked that they were going to do anything wrt the duchess’s pregnancy, in light of recent events, but it was good and well worth it. Martin Short was very “classic.” I dug the episode. I like that they let Paul sing his Christmas song. ---

They edited it out, as they did for the West Coast feed. Hulu also cut Martin Short’s opening monologue and the Alec Baldwin Tony Bennett sketch. Can’t remember what else wasn’t there. ---

I thought the cold open with the children’s choir was spot on. Just the right note of acknowlegement of what happened without being heavy handed about it. ---

SNL has always been crap, with a rare weird exception. It is like the old Johnny Carson show, a collection of light entertainment that returns you to familiar faces telling mildly dirty jokes. Always was. Watch an old one in the light of day and be stunned at how awful it was. There are only a dozen really funny shows in 35 plus years. Cameron Diaz hosted one (if not two) of the funny ones. It is sex and fart jokes. ---

Posts like this always crack me up… so somehow a show that has “always been crap” just happens to sneak onto network television for 30 some years… and the same with Johnny Carson… who let that one past the bean counters who figure out if a show actually makes money based on if people enjoy it or not. And we also know that nobody likes McDonald’s despite their supposed success. ---

Sudeikis is money as the dancing fool - dude can actually dance his ass off - and the fake Kenny G and sweaty Kenan Thompson sells it for me. The random Tiny Tim body popper, Lady Grinch, and pop-and-locking elf killed me. That shit is awesome! Not sure of what to make of the Nirvana part-reunion. I don’t know what atonal tune McCartney was banging out, but it seemed like a tremendous waste. Hey, at least Grohl’s crash cymbals work perfectly fine! ---

Are you implying that McDonald’s _isn’t_ crap because a lot of people eat there, or that NBC also infuses SNL with laboratory-designed additives to fool your brain into thinking it’s good? You actually make a pretty fair comparison, whether intentional or not. SNL is a lot like the McDonald’s of entertainment: universally recognized, predictable, designed to appeal to mass tastes, filled with empty calories— seems enjoyable enough in the moment, but when it’s all gone you wonder why in the hell you subjected yourself to it AGAIN and swear you’re going to find something better next time. ---

I know this is tough for you to grasp, but some… actually many people actually enjoy McDonald’s. Although I’m sure you are convinced that those “laboratory-designed additives” (Ketchup, Mustard?) also wipe out people’s memories so they forget repeatedly how horrible it was and return again week after week. ---
