# SNL Season 5 finale: Buck Henry introduces new cast

Memory is a funny thing, but here goes:

As I recall it, in the closing segment, Buck Henry introduces the new cast for the upcoming season. I don’t recall any of the names, but I do remember one person was a Nell-Carter-ish looking woman.

Anyway. . . when the new season premiered months later, my thoughts–much fresher 30 years ago–at the time were “None of these new actors were the ones Henry introduced.”

So what was the deal? Was it just a gag, or did they get replaced in the interim.

I also seem to recall Henry saying as the show was ending something like, “Good night . . and good-bye.”

Yeah, it was a gag. The “cast” were actually members of the SNL writing staff and production crew.

When I saw it originally, it was clearly a gag.
