We hardly ever get snow in London and when we do, it generally turns to brown slush fairly quickly. Shame. But it was a tad nippy last night and it was quite funny at 08.00 this morning watching people slip and slide on the ice-rink that was the pavement outside the Houses of Parliament! I fully expect to read tomorrow of at least one MP or Lord with a broken hip as a result. You’d think that Westminster Council might have strewn a few grains of grit outside the building which governs the country, wouldn’t you? ---

I’m in Boston. On the 11th floor of a 13-floor building. Looking out the window, I see white. And some faint shadows of the building across the street. A citywide snow emergency has been declared and the MBTA (public transportation) website is down from too many people trying to connect (how am I gonna get home?). They are also predicting _really_ heavy snow Saturday/Sunday. And when it warms up, it’ll all get dirty and slushy and make a huge mess. And then freeze again and be dangerously slippery. So yeah, I love snow, but the kind of snow where you wake up to a few inches forming a beautiful white sheet covering the world on a day when you don’t have to leave the house. Not a mini-blizzard on a weeknight when you also need to get in early the following morning. JRB ---

To echo Silenus (and a few others)… Fuck a bunch of snow. When I left MA in 1997 to come down “heah” to SC, I left 2 ft of snow in my driveway, and had to drive over an inch of packed ice all the way through CT on I-95. However, about 7-8 years ago we got about 6 inches of snow here in SC, and I had great fun driving around watching the whole state trying to drive in it! BUT, I also got screwed by the fact that Myrtle Beach International Airport does NOT have any snow removal equipment, which meant they CLOSED the airport that day (I had an early flight), so I had to drive 100 miles down to Charleston, where there wasn’t any great accumulation. The snow was gone by 11am that day. ---

I love snow! I just wish our public transportation system wouldn’t freak out quite so much at 2-5 centimetres of the stuff. ---

Fuck snow. I live in central New York. I’ve seen enough snow for eight lifetimes. Snow would be perfectly alright with me if it weren’t so cold and wet. It is beautiful but obnoxious, like Jessica Simpson. The former could never outweigh the latter. ---

Boston roads are completely locked tonight. I rescued daughter #1 but my wife and my oldest daughter could only make it as far as her parents house 30 miles away. We have a split family tonight. Some people have already seen a 6 hour commute coming home with more coming. They won’t be coming home tonight. We are thankful that everyone is safe and that is more than most people know. Fuck snow and the pieces of trash that like it. I hope that God sends thunderbolts ti your head. My family, like many others, is experiencing terror tonight because of your evil incantations. ---

I like snow. I really do. But, as I already said in another thread today, I detest the sound of snow. The squeak and crunch puts me on edge, makes me grind my teeth and shudder. The sound actually grosses me out. It sucks being so conflicted. ☹ ---

It hides (& kills) many of the prettiest things in the world, like grass & flowers & little critters. It stays where it is put making huge obstacles to all human effort, unlike rain, which very conveniently promptly soaks in or heads downstream & out of our way. I hate snow.
