I learned to dive in NW PA and we’d do the final certification dive in a quarry, since it was a more controlled environment than the lake. Wasn’t much to see, but you got your free dive requirement fulfilled. There were a few fish, but mostly mud after the first few divers took their dive. ---

I don’t know about the people who say that diving a quarry is boring. There is purported to be several old cars and trucks, as well as a train at the bottom of our quarry. Not to mention all of the “stuff” people have thrown in the quarry. The water quality is quite high, and I have also heard of “encounters” with massive fish. ---
