So...anyone else ever mistakenly think fictional characters were real?

By Grabthar’s Hammer, reading of their plight was truly the most heart-rending section of the Historical Documents. Those poor people!

Especially since CBS cancelled the series unexpectedly in order to keep Gunsmoke on the air.

Lol, yes.

I like the little tie ups and extensions they do for our old series. I wasn’t huge on the westerns but back then choice was limited if you recall. I endured Bonanza, Gunsmoke, the Wild Wild West and the Big Valley.

But we also had the Brady Bunch, the Partridge family, Leave it to Beaver, My Three Sons and so forth and I loved those shows.

At the least in Wild Wild West, they had interesting inventions and James Garner was adorable.

I believe it was Robert Contrad in Wild, Wild West and James Garner in Maverick.

Conrad. Robert Conrad as James West and Ross Martin as Artemus Gordon. One of the best series ever and one of the best “buddy” teams as well.

I always say the only western I ever liked was “The Big Valley” because I forget about “Wild, Wild West”. I mainly forget because as a kid I didn’t consider it a western. I considered it a sci-fi show set in western times.

Making it the exact opposite of Firefly, which was a western show set in sci-fi times.

The first time someone told me that Mister Rogers’ real name was Fred Rogers, I just stared at them, waiting for their own idiocy to cause them to spontaneously combust.

I love how you phrased that man.

SF? More like 19th century James Bond, wasn’t it? (Supervillains always have advanced weapons! )

Well, shuriken were real things, but they generally weren’t killing weapons. They were mostly used for distraction or to get a cheap shot in during a straight up fight. They were also sometimes poisoned and used as makeshift caltrops.

It was before my time, so I saw it as a little kid in re-runs. For whatever reason I only saw it on occasion, so I don’t have the best memory of it. I mainly remember the cool, sometimes seemingly anachronistic technology.

Wikipedia agrees with you though, "this show was conceived by its creator, Michael Garrison, as “James Bond on horseback.”

Never mind the charatcters. I took a figurative pot-shot at an author (“Give me to know: How this foul rout began, Who set it on, And he that is approv’d in this offence”), Stephen King. When he was hospitalized a number of years ago, I muttered to myself, “I hope it’s nothing trivial” (Credit: Winston Churchill)

I’ve been told that Vassili Zaitsef, the Russian sniper in Enemy at the Gates was totally made up by the Soviet Propaganda Ministry , which I must admit surprised me .
(If of course its true )

I only learned yesterday for certain that Scotty McCreery is a real country singer, not just a Bojangles invention. I don’t particularly care either way, it was just something in the back of my head, “I wonder if he’s a Jared or a Flo.”

Was the restaurant chain named for the dancer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson? He was a real person, too.

Thanks, you two. Yes, I remember now. I still think James Garner was cute, though.

Possibly to the topic:

I didn’t think Benjamin Kowalewicz was Billy Talent, but I do still kind of think of him as that name since he is the front singer of the band.

And the other way, I find it interesting that the Mountain Goats is mostly just John Darnielle on an acoustic guitar (or other instruments he plays added and mixed in the studio), but I like to think of him as the Mountain Goats.

Meh.
