That’s not the same as Islamophobia. I think they can be brainwashed into it, it’s certainly possible.

> [@](#):

> Why not? Can a child of Christian parents grow up to hate Christianity?

Yes, as a plethora of posters on the dope are evidence of, of course you don’t dismiss their hate of Christianity you commiserate with it. You don’t call them brainwashed atheists, you call them liberated free-thinkers.

> Some of them may be, but it is not the mere conversion that makes one phobic. The specific church that this kid joined is explicitly Islamophobic. The pastor who recruited her has said so in no uncertain terms. They think that Islam as a whole is “evil,” and that Christians are in a holy war with Islam.

Ok, fair enough. But just because they hate Islam doesn’t mean that this girl doesn’t have real reasons to fear her Father. You’re assuming that she hates Islam because she joined this church. Maybe she joined this church because she hates Islam.

> [@](#):

Fair enough. But why would she join that church?

Or it could explain why you bash Christians on this forum pretty much any chance you get.

Looks like Islamophobia isn’t the only religion phobia going around. Diogenes is oh so sensitive to any hint of ‘Islamophobia’ wherever it might pop up, but every time he mentions Christians it seems that he’s convinced they’re all wackadoodle cultists who brainwash and molest children.

> Ok, for a better example, it would be like a girl being afraid her christian parents would hang, burn, stone, or crush her under boulders for converting to wicca.

If the Bible said that converters to Wicca should be stoned to death, and there were [5,000](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honor_killing) such stonings a year around the world, and there had been a wicca-related stoning of two girls in Dallas\* last year, then if a young girl who had converted to Wicca told me that her crazy Christian parents were trying to kill her, then I’m afraid I’d have to take the threat seriously. Wouldn’t you?

- According to a link above, two girls in Dallas were murdered by their father in an honor killing last year because they dated non-Muslim boys.

My evidence to the contrary is that the kid has not claimed any of the abuse you are alleging, as you irrelevantly parallel her situation to your own. You are clearly just making things up. If the kid was being abused, she surely would have said so by now.

Really? Because I won’t allow you to tell me how to think because of your pre-conceived ideas of what a teacher should think, therefore I am JUST LIKE a cop who said it’s OK to beat your kids. Do you listen to yourself? There is no reason for you to make ad hominem attacks like this, and I really wish you wouldn’t start down this road again with me. I disagree with you. Just as you’ve made some pretty big assumptions about her parents, stuff not even based on what the kid said, when she has every reason to pull out all the stops in slagging off on her parents. My feelings about the Christians in Florida are based on what they are quoted as saying, and the fact that they lured a minor away from home, which is illegal. I use my brother as an example of someone who joined a cult without coming from any particularly troubled family situation. His wife, who is also in the cult, came from a healthy family as well. The one time I met them, they were as baffled as we were as to why she would be attracted to this cult. I don’t think there’s anything far fetched about it. I was wondering if this specific girl had anything to fear, or if the “cult-y,” as the Turnip puts it, Floridians have this poor child whipped up into hysteria over what they think the evil Muslims will do to her. I had previously only heard this story in a very abbreviated context and wanted to know if there was something to it other than a girl being frightened over what she thinks might happen, with little evidence that it actually will. But I agree, they should let the girl hang out in Florida, go to the beach while an investigation is conducted, then send her home. I’m assuming her parents’ story will check out, and her Muslim parents who let her cheerlead and have never abused her will welcome her home, and no one will be killed.

> [@Bricker](#):

>
> All right, kiddo, so are these threats real or imagined? Did your daddy _actually_ say he’s going to kill you because of your tainted, Christian blood, or is this something you learned from those nice folks in Florida? I couldn’t find much else about it until just now, and then found that she says her parents threatened to kill her… or send her to Sri Lanka, whichever is cheaper. And she says this after being harboured by a bunch of grown ups who refused to cooperate with the authorities in the name of some crazy religious war.

At least 5% of the population.

Do you even have a short term memory at all? You made a claim that your parents were not a threat to your Brother’s life, and I asked you if he ever claimed that they were and your answer was no. Please even if you can’t remember what _I_ write, try to remember what YOU write.

So lets see what the applicability of your story is.

1. Did your Brother run away from home as a teenager to join this cult?
2. Did he claim that it was because of something that your parents did?

If so, what does your Brother’s experience have in common with this situation other than there is a religious community involved in both instances?

Some cults like to grow vegetables and fuck one another. Other cults like to prepare for the apocalypse, while still others like to blow up toilets in the Pentagon, while others like to murder actresses or kidnap billionaire heiresses. There’s a pretty big spread here in what the word ‘cult’ means. Generally if people are joining a cult it’s because something is missing in their lives. It might just be that they want to live closely with a tight-knit community, believe me I can relate, and that’s the pretty common reason when people are adults. When they run away as children and claim their parents will kill them, well that’s a different kettle of fish entirely.

What you have in common is teenage rebellion. Beyond that, it’s all conjecture and fabrication on your part. We don’t know what her father actually said to her, or if he abused her. He might have, but he very much might not have. As a minor, she does not have the legal right to flee the state as a way of dealing with it, and the Christians in Florida did not have the legal right to harbor her. If she was really in danger, they had a moral obligation to inform the authorities, not take her into their own hands.

> [@](#):
>
> The point being you have made up your mind in one direction and are just assuming that the girl is a lying vindictive little shit. That’s a rather common reaction abused children get.

I have not made up my mind. More fabrication and straw man bullshit from you. I think there is a great potential for this to be a case of her overreacting and creating drama. It will be investigated (as it seems it currently is, as she is being returned to her parents by the authorities). I find it likely that her parents will be found not to be murderous, abusive wackos, though I have admitted there is a chance I might be wrong. How is it now that I’m the one being unreasonable and making assumptions and you aren’t?

> [@](#):
>
> I am not saying you condone child abuse, I am saying you are dismissive of it. Like yeah, yeah kid whatever, listen to your Mother.

How can I be dismissive of it if there has been NO EVIDENCE offered of it? Please, do post evidence that she was abused, so I can NOT dismiss it for you. She claims that her father threatened her because she converted to Christianity. She has not claimed child abuse. Thus, what I am dismissing is YOUR claims of child abuse, not the kid’s. Big fucking difference.

You would think that if her parents were devout enough to commit an honor killing, they would have been devout enough to have had problems with her being a cheerleader. She seems pretty westernized to me. While I am in no position to judge the case, I am skeptical…

Cults happen, and what is more, they are more common here in America than are honor killings. While it is definitely possible that her life is in danger from her family, I think it is more likely that she is being used as a pawn and has fallen in with a cult. Can anybody put together some numbers on how many teenage girls in the US?

1. Get abducted by cults
2. Are killed by their family in an honor killing

Wow. You found one example of an honor killing in all of North America. That proves all Muslims are psychopathic child killers. How many examples do you think I can find for Christians in the US killing doctors, blowing up abortion clinics, killing gay people, beating up their kids for being gay, etc. Does that prove that all Christians should automatically be considered as very likely to do any of those things?

There is no evidence that this girl’s parents have thretaned to kill her. Even her own statements have been very ambiguous, highly suppositional and extropolative (She claims her dad said “you’re dead to me,” and she took that as a death threat), and her claims have been made while under the heavy control of an Islamophobic cult that thinks that it’s at “war” with Islam.

This kid will go back to Ohio. The parents and household will be investigated. the kid will be returned to their custody, and that will be the end of it.

How about this – I’ll bet you a hundred US dollars that these parents WON’T kill their daughter. Want to take it?

Agreed, completely.

There is a flaw in your thinking. The automatic assumption is that people are ‘abducted’ by cults rather than joining them of their own free will.

This isn’t the Pit. Could you please be specific as to what I’ve said that’s crazy?

Don’t do this. Someone’s going to point out that they won’t kill her, but only because of media scrutiny before I can push the submit button.

> On February 12, a Muslim TV broadcaster portraying himself as a moderate named Muzzammil Hassan reported to the police that his wife was dead, leading to his arrest. He pled not guilty in court. His wife was found stabbed several times and with her head severed after she handed him divorce papers. She had previously told the police that her husband was abusive and controlling, and cited “cruel and inhumane treatment” when she filed for divorce six days earlier.
>
> Hassan had previously received an award from the Council on American-Islamic Relations in 2007 for his creation of Bridges TV, which he had ironically said was aimed at fighting back against anti-Muslim sentiment and stereotypes.

> On July 6, 2008, police arrived at the Jonesboro, Georgia home of Chaudry Rashid following to 9-11 calls, including one presumably of Rashid, saying, “My daughter’s dead.” The 25-year old woman, who had decided to divorce from her arranged husband, was found strangled to death. Rashid was arrested, and police officers say he admitted to killing her with a bungee cord for violating their religion.

> On January 1, 2008, Sarah and Aimna Said, ages 17 and 18 respectively, were found shot to death in a taxi cab in Irving, Texas. The FBI believes that their Egyptian father, Yaser Abdel Said, murdered them, and he is still on the loose. The girls’ great-aunt agrees with the authorities, and some of their friends at school say they saw bruises on Sarah and Aimna, which they stated came from him. The girls and their mother even was forced to flee their father in December 2007 after Sarah received a text message containing a death threat from him. Shortly after returning, they were murdered.

Examples of four women killed in three honor killings in little over a year.
Yes I know the example is from FrontPageMag, I don’t give a fuck, if you don’t think it’s true prove it’s a fabrication don’t go all ad hominem on it.
