I don’t see how that’s the case. I just said that a contract is meaningless without a state to govern both parties; that doesn’t mean that a contract between two members of a society is meaningless unless the society’s government is all-powerful.

In the international arena there is no world state at all. Yet international law is not meaningless. E.g., a state can no longer commit a naked act of aggression against another and expect the rest of the world to see it as only those two states’ business. Even Saddam Hussein had to come up with some colorable pretexts for his actions against Iran and Kuwait.

Hell, even Hitler tried to pretend he was attacked by Poland, Polish commandos sneaking over the border to attack a German radio station. Of course, he didn’t have a disloyal liberal media to worry about… Can you imagine Dana Perino trying to sell that story?

We found some of them. In 2006, a report was released stating that we had found 500 weapons since 2003.

The United States has found 500 chemical weapons in Iraq since 2003, and more weapons of mass destruction are likely to be uncovered, two Republican lawmakers said Wednesday.

“We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons,” Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., said in a quickly called press conference late Wednesday afternoon.

Reading from a declassified portion of a report by the National Ground Intelligence Center, a Defense Department intelligence unit, Santorum said: “Since 2003, coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent. Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq’s pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist.”

Great find. A *Santorum *quote, on *Fox *, about some by-then-useless old debris from the previous war, and the war before that. Therefore Bush was telling the truth about the grave and gathering threat Saddam posed that required immediate invasion.

What’s more, the Bush Administration basically said that Santorum had gone off the deep end with his idiotic statement.

Lawmakers Cite Weapons Found in Iraq

Neither the military nor the White House nor the CIA considered the shells to be evidence of what was alleged by the Bush administration to be a current Iraqi program to make chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.

Last night, intelligence officials reaffirmed that the shells were old and were not the suspected weapons of mass destruction sought in Iraq after the 2003 invasion.
