So we made a hasty getaway. ---
**Author:** ![Beckdawrek](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/beckdawrek/32/3647_2.png) [@Beckdawrek](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Beckdawrek)\ **Post date:** [January 5, 2020, 7:37pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/302 "2020-01-05T19:37:13Z")
But…We ran into a fast moving stream ---
**Author:** ![panache45](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/panache45/32/64_2.png) [@panache45](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/panache45)\ **Post date:** [January 5, 2020, 9:50pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/303 "2020-01-05T21:50:09Z")
So we all clung to the dog as he dog-paddled downstream. ---
**Author:** ![Beckdawrek](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/beckdawrek/32/3647_2.png) [@Beckdawrek](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Beckdawrek)\ **Post date:** [January 5, 2020, 11:36pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/304 "2020-01-05T23:36:22Z")
But…We ran into rapids. ---
**Author:** ![panache45](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/panache45/32/64_2.png) [@panache45](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/panache45)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 12:07am UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/305 "2020-01-06T00:07:15Z")
So we got torn away from the dog, and each fended for himself, including the dog. ---
**Author:** ![Beckdawrek](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/beckdawrek/32/3647_2.png) [@Beckdawrek](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Beckdawrek)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 2:56am UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/306 "2020-01-06T02:56:55Z")
But…a catfish bit my head and took me down to his underwater lair. ---
**Author:** ![Elendil\_s\_Heir](https://avatars.discourse-cdn.com/v4/letter/e/7cd45c/32.png) [@Elendil\_s\_Heir](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Elendil_s_Heir)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 4:47am UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/307 "2020-01-06T04:47:27Z")
So he showed me his collection of autographed first-edition Isaac Asimov novels, and I have to say I was impressed by how little water damage they’d suffered. ---
**Author:** ![panache45](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/panache45/32/64_2.png) [@panache45](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/panache45)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 9:07am UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/308 "2020-01-06T09:07:31Z")
But _Foundation_ was crumbling badly and _I, Robot_ had gotten somewhat rusty down there. ---
**Author:** ![Beckdawrek](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/beckdawrek/32/3647_2.png) [@Beckdawrek](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Beckdawrek)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 9:28am UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/309 "2020-01-06T09:28:43Z")
So…we found a way out the back door. ---
**Author:** ![panache45](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/panache45/32/64_2.png) [@panache45](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/panache45)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 11:37am UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/310 "2020-01-06T11:37:05Z")
But we were then faced with an underwater pineapple and its resident sea sponge, who welcomed us with a big smile. ---
**Author:** ![Elendil\_s\_Heir](https://avatars.discourse-cdn.com/v4/letter/e/7cd45c/32.png) [@Elendil\_s\_Heir](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Elendil_s_Heir)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 6:39pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/311 "2020-01-06T18:39:30Z")
So after a quick and delicious visit to the Krusty Krab, we decided it was time to head back to the surface. ---
**Author:** ![Beckdawrek](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/beckdawrek/32/3647_2.png) [@Beckdawrek](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Beckdawrek)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 7:00pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/312 "2020-01-06T19:00:04Z")
But…we had to swim through a forest of kelp. ---
**Author:** ![Elendil\_s\_Heir](https://avatars.discourse-cdn.com/v4/letter/e/7cd45c/32.png) [@Elendil\_s\_Heir](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Elendil_s_Heir)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 7:15pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/313 "2020-01-06T19:15:01Z")
So we started swinging our underwater machetes to make our way through. ---
**Author:** ![Bumbershoot](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/bumbershoot/32/3428_2.png) [@Bumbershoot](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Bumbershoot)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 7:40pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/314 "2020-01-06T19:40:20Z")
But the kelp turned out to be the tentacles of a sea monster. ---
**Author:** ![atimnie](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/atimnie/32/11_2.png) [@atimnie](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/atimnie)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 8:41pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/315 "2020-01-06T20:41:40Z")
So every time we slashed a tentacle, two more grew back. ---
**Author:** ![Beckdawrek](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/beckdawrek/32/3647_2.png) [@Beckdawrek](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Beckdawrek)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 9:17pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/316 "2020-01-06T21:17:04Z")
But…there were many if us and we got through the kelp/tentacles without so much as a scratch. ---
**Author:** ![Elendil\_s\_Heir](https://avatars.discourse-cdn.com/v4/letter/e/7cd45c/32.png) [@Elendil\_s\_Heir](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Elendil_s_Heir)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 10:03pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/317 "2020-01-06T22:03:54Z")
So when we finally reached the surface you can appreciate, I’m sure, that we were more than a little perturbed to see that there was no ship in sight. ---
**Author:** ![atimnie](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/atimnie/32/11_2.png) [@atimnie](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/atimnie)\ **Post date:** [January 6, 2020, 10:14pm UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/318 "2020-01-06T22:14:57Z")
But we did find the dog… ---
**Author:** ![Beckdawrek](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/beckdawrek/32/3647_2.png) [@Beckdawrek](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Beckdawrek)\ **Post date:** [January 7, 2020, 12:04am UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/319 "2020-01-07T00:04:28Z")
So…We headed for the vet. ---
**Author:** ![panache45](https://sea3.discourse-cdn.com/straightdope/user_avatar/boards.straightdope.com/panache45/32/64_2.png) [@panache45](https://boards.straightdope.com/u/panache45)\ **Post date:** [January 7, 2020, 12:43am UTC](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656/320 "2020-01-07T00:43:04Z")
But it was a “Cats Only” vet, and they wouldn’t even look at the dog. [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656.md?page=15) [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/so-but/663656.md?page=17)
