I’m still trying to get a calibration here.
Given that “cancel culture” was a theme of a few of the RNC speeches last night, it seems that this will continue to be relevant.
Is this an example of cancel culture?

Her medical certificate was revoked because she claimed to intentionally harm patients by giving them the wrong meds. That it was racially motivated is bad, but secondary, I assume, to the “first do no harm” principle of medical practice. I imagine the hospital administration of Kern Medical had legitimate concerns about liability.
Kollab in 2012 made comments on Twitter including that she would purposely give Jewish people the wrong medicine. When those comments came to light in 2018, Kollab resigned in lieu of termination from her internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic, according to the medical board.
Among the tweets Kollab made from 2011 to 2013, according to medical board documents, were, “Allah will take the Jews” (as translated) and “hahha ewww…I’ll purposely give all the yahood (Jews) the wrong meds…” (as translated).
You’re admitting your preferred system is, essentially, the Christian Millennium, the system which will obtain when Jesus is returned to His Throne, the last are first, and the Book of Revelation occurs.
I’m sorry, what is this garbled nonsense and how does it relate in any way to what I’ve said?
Just pointing out where the whole “end of history” dogma comes from.
A dogma I haven’t referenced at all. Nice strawman you got there.
Derleth, your replies to MrDibble are increasingly bizarre. Maybe step back for a bit?
Are you cancelling Derleth?
Derleth: CANCELED
Here’s a radio host in Pittsburgh who has threatened protesters and called for them to be shot on sight.
Some people are calling for her to lose her job as a broadcaster. Is this “cancel culture”? I’ll note she’s already lost a TV gig due to past comments deemed as inappropriate (made on her official station facebook page).
This is a pretty old thread, but this is also the most recent post I could find that mentioned the Black infant mortality effect. Thought it worth a correction.
There’s a new study that shows that the connection is probably false:
In short, when you control for birth weight, the concordance becomes statistically insignificant:
We find that the magnitude of the concordance effect is substantially reduced after controlling for diagnoses indicating very low birth weight (<1,500 g), which are a strong predictor of neonatal mortality but not among the 65 most common comorbidities. In fact, the estimated effect is near zero and statistically insignificant in the expanded specifications that control for very low birth weight and include hospital and physician fixed effects.
The reason for the observed difference, in effect, is that Black physicians take on a smaller proportion of very-low-birth-weight cases. It has nothing to do with Black infants receiving worse care from white doctors. Possibly the exact opposite.
Why this might be is undetermined. It could still be racism of some kind–maybe white doctors are given harder cases because they’re seen as more prestigious. But there are lots of innocuous possibilities as well.
of course what constitutes an “unjust gov’t” is where the problem lies (no masks ever, e.g.)
Link that takes me to the complete paper here:
The key issue with doxxing, I think, is that it’s a gate that is opened without any way to predict what will come through it, and once the gate is opened, it’s generally impractical to close it again.
For any value of transgression by a person enjoying the safety of anonymity, the effect of doxxing them can never be guaranteed to be proportional to the transgression because the effect simply cannot be predicted; it might be that someone goes to the house of the transgressor and puts angrily-worded notes through the door, or sets light to a bag of dog poop on the doorstep, or it might be that someone pours petrol through their letterbox and burns down their home, killing them and their family. It’s a dice roll.
