I’ve known a number of ethnically white adherents of Voodoo, including two who’d make an annual pilgrimage to Haiti for the big December rituals several of the _loa_ have at that time of year. They’re sort of like black Jews - people outside the religion always seemed amazed or doubtful they exist, but those within know about them. You also have to understand that there are several levels of being involved in religion. There are the common folk, who attend the rituals and go to the _hougan_ or _mambo_ for spiritual and/or magical needs. Then there are the initiated, who are privy to the secrets of the _loa_ they are dedicated to. Most Voodoo folks _never_ learn the “ritual secrets” whether they were raised in the religion or converted later. It’s not like Christianity where things are open and people get indoctrinated on all the details. It’s a complex of revealed religion and secret societies organized very differently than the monotheistic Abrahamic religions. The Spanish flavored version is called Santeria. It’s no more or less a scam than any other religion. ---

Well, glad that’s settled. I gotta say, I’m a bit iffy about following an amen with “laterz”. Feels a bit like starting the Lord’s prayer with “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, dude.” It’s just a minor stylistic gripe in the wider context of your _oeuvre majeure_, however. ---
