Yes, they are. I’ve known a number of ethnically white adherents of Voodoo, including two who’d make an annual pilgrimage to Haiti for the big December rituals several of the loa have at that time of year. They’re sort of like black Jews - people outside the religion always seemed amazed or doubtful they exist, but those within know about them.
You also have to understand that there are several levels of being involved in religion. There are the common folk, who attend the rituals and go to the hougan or mambo for spiritual and/or magical needs. Then there are the initiated, who are privy to the secrets of the loa they are dedicated to. Most Voodoo folks never learn the “ritual secrets” whether they were raised in the religion or converted later. It’s not like Christianity where things are open and people get indoctrinated on all the details. It’s a complex of revealed religion and secret societies organized very differently than the monotheistic Abrahamic religions.
The Spanish flavored version is called Santeria.
It’s no more or less a scam than any other religion.
And nothing you have posted (and no information provided elsewhere), indicates that there is anything Satanic about Voudoun and it is not cultic except in the restricted use that applies the word to all religious belief.
(Among various Christian Fundamentalist groups, several believe that all beliefs outside their own groups are “Satanic” and most such groups are (mis)labeled “cults.” Those denominations may project “Satanic cult” onto Voudoun, but we are discussing the objective reality of Satanic cults, not the beliefs of specific Christians.)
They are taught a simple and easy to remember concept that allows them to bypass any need to research or understand: Anything that isn’t their particular brand of Christianity is Satanism.
Isn’t that self-evident to anyone who sincerely believes both that (a) they belong to the One True Approved-by-God-Himself religion and (b) that Satan is an active force in the world working to trick people into not following that religion?
There can only be “Us” versus “Those Who Have Been Deceived” in that world-view.
I gotta say, I’m a bit iffy about following an amen with “laterz”. Feels a bit like starting the Lord’s prayer with “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, dude.” It’s just a minor stylistic gripe in the wider context of your oeuvre majeure, however.
Thank you for quoting it in full because SOMEBODY took his mod powers too seriously and deleted the whole post before we could all read it and laugh at it.
I’m afraid that kind of broken he is, is , well - broken - I have no idea what that post is about, other than a lesson in spell checking and “stream of consciousness” typing.
It might be a lesson in posting while under the influence of “protean based memory control drugs developed by the kgb”
