Wow. A lot of veiled insults and bizarre accusations are getting leveled at me here; so many in fact that if I replied to every one the whole thread would end up looking like I was type/talking to myself by the end, so I’ll do this my way. The first thing is apparently something I have to express in words of four syllables or less, so you can understand it: 1.Trump won’t go to the joint. Because the Powers That Fucking Be, the heads of the government and holders of the wealth, are never gonna let one of the rich and powerful of ex-president level, really go to prison. 1. I know for a fact that if I, or anyone I know, got convicted of _34 felonies_, or 17, or 10, they’d be buried under the jail, so to speak. They probably wouldn’t get out of there alive. I know lots of felons and ex-felons who did longer, harder stretches than Trump will ever see, for a lot less than 34 crimes. But there’s always some spurious reason that the wealthy and connected don’t get 10 to 20 in a hardass joint for the shit they do get convicted of. And that’s what I’m pissed off about. **bobot** : it was a farce because it was the PTFB were trying one of their own, in a system that’s set up to benefit _them_. It’s a forgone conclusion that he’ll skate or get offf light under such a system. **mijin** asks _“What does the OP want to happen? Trump goes to a maximum security prison and gets raped…”_ Yeah, I agree with that right up to the part about him getting raped. He shouldn’t get raped in prison, nobody should, and I think it’s bizarre that you got that from what I said. Good luck finding ‘luxury’ foods like broccoli on the menu in prison. I noticed that you could not reply to the fact that you were an ignorant about what the “Club Fed” prisons are really doing. Anyhow, It is clear to me that Trump being branded a felon and if he is not sent to jail, that will leave that injustice to fester all the way to election day. It is a big deal when one takes into account how close the election could be. A very significant group of independents will not be amused when they realize that progressives and many moderates will have a good point regarding what the Republicans are doing with their ongoing corruption of the judiciary branch outside New York. ---

Everything I needed to know about how big of a honking deal it was for Trump to be convicted was reflected in the moments leading up to the verdict as reported by legal experts in the courtroom during the proceedings. According to their reports, shortly before 4:30 p.m., Judge Merchan advised the attorneys and Trump that he was going to release the jury to go home for the evening in a few minutes. Judge Merchan then left the courtroom to check on the jurors. During his absence, Trump and his lawyer, Todd Blanche, were jubilant. They were smoking and joking in the courtroom, laughing and practically exchanging high-fives. They were sure _their_ juror (No. 2, by most accounts) was going to hang the jury on Friday. Then Judge Merchan returned to the courtroom and advised he’d been told the jury had reached a verdict and needed 30 minutes to complete the verdict form. All high jinx ceased instantly. Trump and Blanche, who had been head-to-head and giggling just moments before, would not look at each other and leaned apart. Trump left the courtroom looking like death warmed over. Trump knows this verdict is not going to help him in any way. It’s a big honking deal. ---
