So, High-Speed Access Last Week, 10 year old Discovers Porn This Week. What to do?

Get a rolltop desk, big enough for a computer, & with a lock on it.
“Use only with supervision” until she gets the message.

That’s what my friends and I did (well we were looking for male models - but same idea). These kids today they’ve got it way too easy.

Are you sure she was looking for porn? I can’t tell you the number of times I have done things like:

Google: Bambi
click
:smack:
Google: Bambi +Disney

I agree you should still talk to her but it might have really just been an innocent mistake.

Only the good stuff…

Make her work for it. I developed some pretty savvy skills by trying to access porn and by hiding those activities from the parental unit. She can benefit from this.

You should of course first explain that porn isn’t reality .

Get concerned if she asks for a webcam.

OK. She confessed, and blamed it on a boy in her class who told her to check out “naked men” and “lesbian sex” and other choice Googles. So, obviously it was no innocent mistake. (However I honestly think she’s protecting one of her female friends. I have my reasons.)

Since the talk on Monday night I’ve checked the browser and Google history and everything’s fine.

She, surprisingly enough, didn’t seem that embarrassed once confronted. More like, “Oh well someone told me to do it and I did- shrug.”

She’s a good kid, really, but I’m starting to dread the teenage years!

Sounds like a talk about peer pressure and being able to say no might not be a bad idea, either…
