So, did anybody see this? Was it as bad as advertised? Is it even worth renting? ---

On SNL, Cage himself (appearing on Weekend Update with Andy Samberg doing his Cage impression beside him) said that this is the perfect Nicolas Cage movie: All the dialog is either whispered or screamed, and everything in the movie is on fire. ---

I mostly saw the movie as research- I do special effects, and the previous movie had some great fire effects. The effects in this one weren’t even as good as the first (although I did like the sooty look they used for the fire in this one). ---

Actually… I enjoyed it. Not great cinema, but entertaining enough for a matinee. Almost every aspect was improved since the first movie, although the cinematography goes completely off the wall at times (you basically get a lot of Blaze’s inner-viewpoint, and it’s crazy as hell). For what it’s worth, I though the first one was bland, boring, and largely wasted. This completely ignores the first more or less, and has many mroe interesting characters. I would say that the Evil Lieutenant is poorly fleshed-out, so that he just doesn’t stick in your mind enough. With some more work they could have made him much more interesting.
