Have a safe trip, Dotty. I don’t envy that long trip! Keep us posted - you’ll be in my prayers (if you don’t mind, that is!).
If things change (and I hope they don’t) feel free to PM me. I had an emergency hysterectomy almost 2 years ago at the age of 30, directly after giving birth to my daughter, so I can speak to the emotional part. I still have days when I can’t believe I can’t have anymore children.
My advice for anyone going through surgery is to keep up with your pain meds! Don’t wait for the pain to come-take your meds on schedule to head off the pain before it starts. Also, poop as soon as you can. Waiting too long not only delays your release from the hospital, but becomes very uncomfortable very quickly.
Stopped by to wish you a speedy recovery!
Bumping to see how things are going!
Hi all, and thanks for the bump Mama Zappa. I must have missed the earlier posts after mine in the rushing around between countries!
All is well with me, thank God. I had a repeat LLETZ (aka cervical loop diathermy) on 3rd February and the pathology came back good, with clear surgical margins (10mm). So, no need for hysterectomy or even the lesser trachelectomy. We are going back to Australia for a family holiday in April, so I will have a follow-up with the gynaecological oncologist then, but otherwise I will be on 3-month colposcopy checks with my regular gynae. for about a year to ensure all is well. That said, we are all clear to start trying for a baby as from next Wednesday (4 weeks post-op).
{{{Jelly Roll}}} Although I managed to come out of this (so far) with my bits intact, the week or so of thinking it was all over means I can certainly relate to your feelings. Thanks for your support.
Thank you all for your support!
Fantastic! There was another hysterectomy thread in the last couple of days so that reminded me of your thread.
Make sure when you do get PG, that you discuss whether the procedures you’ve had make it higher risk (incompetent cervix / cerclage-wise).
Looking forward to seeing an “OMG WE’RE PREGNANT” thread from you soon
That’s great news,** Dotty**! Sending good “bun in the oven” vibes your way!
I’m so pleased this has turned out so well for you! That’s fantastic news You must be so relieved.
I hope you have just as much luck in your baby-making endeavours. You’ve earned it!
Oh, Dotty, that’s wonderful!
(Fingers crossed for successful babymaking)
Hi Dotty, I just saw this thread. I’m glad that things turned out better than you anticipated. That must have been very scary for a while there.
Good luck with the baby plans!
Thanks again everyone.
I feel slightly sick when I re-read my OP and the earlier posts in this thread, and I am unbelievably thankful that I managed to dodge this bullet. I thank God every day for blessing me with another chance.
I really want to say a huge “Thank You” to BigBertha for posting the link to HealthBoards, as it was only through looking at the cervical cancer forum and threads there that I realised my gynae. here in Bahrain wasn’t giving me all the options in terms of preserving my fertility. And that gave me the push to ask more questions and find my wonderful gynae. oncologist in Australia (who, by the way, is a sinfully gorgeous Brazilian man - far more attractive than any man who looks at vaginas should be - but he is a happily married man, so there is that).
Thanks folks!
I’m SO glad for your good news, Dotty (though for your diagnosis, of course). Good luck on the babymaking…I always think of you this time of year when our little ones’ birthdays are coming up!
