Well, apparently we _were_ so šŸ˜› right back. (Actually I find you to be a rather frustrating FB friend because you always posted commentary about restaurants nowhere near me and then I have to go all day dreaming about luscious barbecue or whatever and not having it. Torture.) My conversations on FB are almost universally awesome. I was merely commenting on why a hypothetical other person might not find it to be so. ---

I just reactivated my FB account after a 2 year gap and am already regretting it. I made the mistake the first time of friending family. And so I canā€™t really be myself with them and their fundamentalism stinking up my page. And this second time I compounded the mistake by posting that I was back. I should have quietly unfriended all of them before posting anything so that theyā€™d never know Iā€™d come back. Then I could just have the folks I like spamming me. ---

Most of my Facebook friends are astronomers, engineers, or geeks of some other kind. I also belong to a couple of groups that notify me to news stories that are relevant to my job. The few friends I have who do not fall into either geek or news categories are generally family, and they post cute pictures of their kids. My Facebook feed is awesome. Iā€™m not going to lie, I donā€™t really use Facebook to ā€œkeep upā€ with anybody - if anything, there are some people (family and friends) who I know better on FB than in real life, and I do check it too often (usually 2-3 times a day), but nothingā€™s perfect and it makes for a good distraction when work gets too stressful.
