Ignore her. Hob Nobs are great! (BTW… does chav = British white trash?) FWIW, you may want to check your local stores- many of these things are available without going to a specialty store. You may want to concentrate on things you can’t get readily. At my local Kroger(!) grocery store, I found the following on the international aisle: [ul] [li]Mc Vitie’s Hob Nobs- Milk chocolate and plain[/li][li]Mc Vitie’s Digestives- dark(plain) chocolate and no chocolate.[/li][li]Heinz Mushy peas[/li][li]Heinz Tomato soup[/li][li]Tayto crisps[/li][li]Bisto gravy[/li][li]Cadbury flake[/li][li]Daddies Sauce[/li][li]HP Sauce[/li][li]Colman’s mustard[/li][li]Some kind of malt vinegar (I don’t remember)[/li][li]Aero bars[/li][li]Turkish delight[/li][li]Ribena[/li][li]Lemon barley water[/li][li]Lucozade[/li][li]Idris Ginger beer[/li][li]Some kind of cake in a can[/li][li]Pears soap[/li][li]Robertson Lemon curd[/li][li]Branston pickle[/li][/ul] There’s more, but this is all I can remember definitely. There’s even more at the local gourmet type stores (Whole Foods & HEB Central Market). ---

That’s why the common people like them. I’d recommend the “cake in a can” if it’s the heinz sponge pudding range - spoted dick, chocolate sponge, treacle sponge etc. They really are excellent - but you do need some custard (the tinned stuff is pretty good). ---

Whoops… I think I got you confused with one of the other posters actually. Other than the baldness and beard, you sound a lot like me! In case you’re wondering, Frisco’s about 18 miles north of downtown Dallas- it’s one of the up and coming suburbs. Our girls are plenty good looking, but they fall into 2 categories: under 18 suburban girls, or stereotypical Dallas MILF types (big, blonde hair, fake boobs, trying to look 10-15 years younger than they are.) I think the cake in a can was some kind of Heinz sponge cake, but I don’t recall what kind exactly. ---

This thread reminds me of the time my sweet grandmother in law gave us a $100 gift certificate to IKEA for Christmas. We were less delighted when we realized it was for the food store. Now I like to sample different foods from interesting cultures as much as the next gourmet, but eight years later I can’t stand to be within twenty feet of a Swedish meatball. ---
