Zsofia,
I must say, you are probably right in your assessment that you had caught these guys by surprise. And as many of the previous posts say, share and we’ll listen.
But I read your comments on considering security issues more closely as a result, and I’d like to assure you that, given the fact that you kept a cool head at the time, you are likely to be the type of person who feels better by taking action. Self-defense courses, however cliche, are a good idea.
Many of the ladies I know who have been exposed to violence one way or another found that taking such courses restored a self-confidence that, in some cases, they weren’t aware they had lost.
I would also recommend - to anyone - The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. Basically, he talks about avoiding and handling dangerous situations through common sense and intuition.
