…and I would like some ideas for a drag name. A friend of mine is organising a charity comedy night in aid of breast cancer and next Tuesday we will be raising money for the main event. So a group of us have agreed to dress-up to collect money and, through some train of thought, me and another male friend are going drag. So help me name my new persona and if you have any ideas for what to wear etc. There will be photos, BTW. ---

Are you going for glamour drag or clown drag? This is important for determining whether your name should be something sophisticated or a pun. The old standby formula for generating a drag name is to take the name of your first pet for the first name and the street where you grew up for your last. Unfortunately for me that doesn’t work as I end up with “George Peach Orchard.” It does lend itself to becoming “Georgia Peach” but since I’m not southern it all just goes to shit. ---

Glamour drag is going for a more realistic woman appearance. Think Torch Song Trilogy. Clown drag is much more exaggerated. Realism is not a concern. Think Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. [Here’s](http://www.queenmother.tv/nycgirl/hedda/hedd.html) a site showing the same performer in a variety of glamour and clown drags. Pictures 1, 4 and 5 along the left side would be glamour; pictures 2 and 3 would be clown. ---

Would you shave your legs? (they are easier to shave than a chin, just do it after a hot bath). If you shave your legs get some fishnet pantyhose, if you don’t shave, then get black or coloured thickish nylons. Borrow a skirt if you can from a female friend or cut down dome old jeans to hotpants size. A stretchy top can be enhanced by a couple of baloons. If you have short hair, buy a cheap girly wig, if you have long hair look into getting a girl friend to tie ribons into your hair. Don’t go for womens shoes as they will cost a lot and hurt, instead use whatever shoes you have that a woman might wear (Doc martens are popular with Grrls and boys). Borrow makeup from girl friends and get them to make you up if you can (they allmost certainly have much more makeup experience than you do). Since the cause is brest cancer, maybe your drag names should be brest related. Lucy Jugs, Mary Melonsworthy, Trixy Cleavage, … ---

I never even considered balloons. I will be getting a wig, hopefully, and as for shoes the girls want me in heels and if they can find size 12’s I’ll wear them. Using the pet/street model I am Trixie Monroe. Once, whilst imbibing somewhat heavily, a bunch of us made up names using what was in the spice rack. I was Paprika Allspice The drag name generator gave me Iva Fetish. One of my all time favorites is Iona Trailer ---

Make sure you have spare comfy shoes to change to if the heels get too painful. Wear thich underwear under the fishnets, and small socks under the fishnets, as they can be painful after a while. Unless you intend to do this sort of thing often, I expect buying size 12’s might be an expensive investment for little return.
