Holy crap, aruvqun, how do you do the cruise ship thing with such a restrictive diet?
Condiments are vital to longterm survival in any institutional setting. I ordered some gluten-free pizza from Domino’s (and I had to be desperate to find that an attractive alternative!), and I got a bunch of Parmesan cheese packets, some garlic butter and marinara sauce in tubs while I was at it. It helped punch up the plain, dry chicken breast they gave me. I got a bunch of my favorite sweetener, ketchup, mustard, etc. Those little packets that you rip open and pour into bottled water to flavor it - that’s nice to have too.
Well. . crap. The beach/spa life would be very problematic with an ostomy. I live in the middle of the country and haven’t vacationed since 1998, so that didn’t occur to me. And yeah, eating anything that can show up again in your poop is problematic with an ostomy as well. I’m not particularly adventurous with my food choices these days. Right now, I’m trying to drop a bunch of weight for my surgery to make things easier, so I’m eating a bunch of chicken. A lot of ppl with Crohn’s are skinny, but I took so much prednisone for so long, I gained a lot of weight. I’m down over fifty pounds, but want to lose more.

Carefully asking about ingredients, knowing flavor profile info [anything that is pacific rim will most likely have coconut or fish sauce as a random generalization ] and having a preference for basic foods [my perfect menu is a perfectly grilled steak, a baked potato with tons of butter with salt and pepper and a veg like asparagus or broccoli with butter and lemon =) ] many heavily sauced foods bother me as an autistic person [too strong, too many flavors, stuff like that] and one can graze buffets for more simple foods like fresh seasonal fruits, simple basics like pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, omelets to order, bacon … though I will confess [don’t tell my endocrinologist] that last time I did an experiment that we ended up terming the open bar package as teh ‘maintain the blood alcohol content plan’ - I did a mai tai an hour from 9 am to 11 pm =) and managed to keep my glucose reading to 100-105 with judicious use of insulin [oops =) ]
exactly =) though as I said, peanut butter and jelly on hand combined with nurse provided crackers is a nice snack, though I have been known to just suck the PB out of the packet as a quick hi protein snack.

[/quote] great job on the weight loss =) I was eating what I could manage with the chemo and radiation at home [3 meals of medsludge, and 2 meals of pretty plain BRAT based foods [well, more like what they call the white diet, adding in chicken and white fish like cod, haddock or sole and eggs as protein] A good meal for me is the raw egg on hot rice [I seasoned the rice with mirin and soy sauce first, then stirred the egg in] and thankfully I happen to like bananas, rice, applesauce and toast =)
Have you hit minimus.biz for the condiments? They have a hell of a selection!
No problem =) They are also great if you want to try something and not buy a full size of it - and have stuff for travel, or like my hospital go bag =)
I am not so much of a wheat product junkie that I couldn’t live gluten free - but I rarely badger about gluten free options, but if I see something on a menu that is gluten free I might give it a try. I baffled my local Chinese place for a while, I was one of the few people asking for General Tso Tofu - not because I am vegetarian, I just happen to like tofu =)
