Ground rules-\> I mean music from the disco era, no cheating and nominating a modern dance song. I’m aware of the pop hits that get played to this day too.

There has been a total of one diso song I have run across that impressed me enough to take notice and add them to my personal playlist.

Tantra - The Hills Of Katmandu
There have been a few others I kinda liked but didn’t amaze me(Charlie - Spacer Woman?) and like Tantra all were in the sub genre Italio Disco.

[Chic](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chic_%28band%29)

Those guys were phenomenal musicians. Even if you hate disco, you can just listen to the guitar and bass parts and be amazed at the level of tightness and funkiness achieved by Rodgers and Edwards.

Is there any bad disco?

Seriously, so much to choose from. ABBA, early Michael Jackson, Bee Gees… always gets people dancing.

In addition to what’s already been mentioned:

KC and the Sunshine Band - Give It Up, Sound Your Funky Horn, Shotgun Shuffle, Get Down Tonight, et al.

Donna Summer - I Feel Love

I’m a blues/country/rock guitar player born in 1959, so a sworn opponent of disco.

That said, I think the following songs have something:

The Hues Corporation - Rock the Boat

George McRae - Rock Your Baby

Bee Gees - Night Fever, Jive Talkin

Heatwave - Groove Line, Boogie Nights

MFSB - TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia, aka Theme from Soul Train)

Chic - Good Times

There may be others.

It’s ALL good!

Ok, 90% is good. I own an extensive disco collection I still enjoy the shit out of. Some of my favorites:

Bad Girls - Donna Summer
Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough - Michael Jackson
Can’t Get Enough of Your Love - Barry White
Good Times - Chic
Contact - Edwin Starr
Born To Be Alive - Patrick Hernandez
Heart of Glass - Blondie
Macho Man/In The Navy/YMCA - The Village People
Funky Town - Lipps Inc.

Great stuff to get you out on the dance floor under the mirror ball!

The Saturday Night Fever album was full of delicious disco-alityness.

Does anyone else here remember Sammy Davis Jr crying as he accepted the 1st annual Disco Life Style Award?

Thelma Houston’s [“Don’t Leave Me This Way”](http://youtu.be/4yiGi481w3k) and the rest of the [fabulous soundtrack](http://www.amazon.com/Looking-Mr-Goodbar-Artie-Kane/dp/B000001ZCV) to the film [Looking For Mr. Goodbar](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076327/) is what turned me from a disco hater to a “Well, it’s not ALL crap” believer. I also liked the music from [Saturday Night Fever](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076666/) but that was more because I really liked the movie and that made me like the music too. I’m not so sure I would have liked the music if I’d heard it on its own first.

Not exactly disco, but a disco-inspired song from the World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band that beats the pants off anything the Bee Gees ever tried. [- YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrwUqxZ_i80)

I’m not sure I’d classify ABBA as disco.

There was an interesting episode of NPR’s Sound Opinions a few years back in which Jim and Greg (the hosts) revisited disco, put it into context, and actually made quite a convincing case for it. [You can listen to it here.](http://www.spokenword.org/program/312059) I’ve never been a big fan of the genre, but their perspective on it made me reconsider my views.
