Religious organizations, especially traditional and conservative ones with a strong sense of subservience to the leadership, are prime spots for abusers to get away with abuse. Not all priests/pastors are abusers, but abusers will be strongly attracted to positions like pastor and priest in which it’s much easier to find and abuse victims, then keep them quiet. No large organiztion should be trusted to police their own. ---

It seems strange that there would be such a strong link between ancient Jewish philosophy and kiddie diddling, but the evidence is overwhelming. As to the question of how they can accept that and maintain their vitriol against gays, check out this article about the latest gay marriage ban attempt in Kansas. In a nutshell, they claim that gays are followers of secular humanism, as a religion, and that gay marriage therefore has to be rejected because it is a religious practice. The potential for this kind of thing to happen exists any place where people get together, be they men, women, or children. It’s more about power than it is about religion. I sometimes listen to a podcast done by a couple who left the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and they were talking about sexual abuse (and its coverup) in that religion. They mentioned that the Seventh-Day Adventists have a protocol for dealing with sexual abuse, and one of the sections has to do with how to handle things when the perpetrator is a child. ☹ ---
