I’m glad they check for ID. I heard crazy things happen in Thai bars. Seriously, good. Thailand hasn’t always enforced its laws with regard to elephants and it’s nice to see their welfare taken seriously. ---

True story: There used to be a small open-air beerbar area on one corner of the Asoke intersection, a stone’s throw from the Soi Cowboy red-light area. I was sitting at one bar when this trunk came slithering over my shoulder. A mahout had snuck up on me with his elephant. Without missing a beat, I ordered a drink for the beast, but the lady staff behind the bar had all run away squealing. Ah well, he looked too young anyway. ---

Elephants like a bit of booze.
