Not sure how Ambivalid feels about me sharing something personal like this, but I don’t think he’ll be too upset. (We live together.) A few weeks back, we had a Tinder girl over. We swing, from time to time. He once knew this girl from like 8 yrs ago and had lost contact, so he was a little excited when she showed up again. Being they had history, and I’m generally good at reading people, I didn’t feel the slightest apprehension. Anyways. She said she was going to get smokes, and the bright, naive dumbass I am, I was like, “Here’s the keys.” I never thought someone would be stupid enough to jeopardize themselves by stealing a freaking car like that. But yeah, this girl never came back. They found the car. They found the girl. I’m about to go pick it up and pay the towing fee. We have some mild subpoena to testify she did, in fact, take our car in a few weeks. Oy Vey. I mean, thank my lucky stars I’m not down a car. I guess. I’m not used to anything to do with the police and the law and whatnot, so I’m nervous just being involved in the situation. I feel really really dumb for this ever happening in the first place. (Ambivalid’s been cool about it, though. It’s like he always knows everything’s always alright.) I can’t keep this in and it’s all I can think about. ---

I used to do the same thing in college. Had a used car with 80,000 miles on it. . Keys were on the dining table. Need beer or burgers? Take the keys and go get it, and bring some back for me. That happened dozens of times and the car always returned. I remember a couple idiots forgot to put the keys back. But that was easily corrected. A used car isn’t worth going to Prison. Hard to imagine someone being that dumb to drive off and not come back. ---

Spent hours just trying to text her and coax her into bringing it back. I don’t get it at all. All she had to do was bring the car back. I don’t know what happened in her head. And now… She’s going to jail or suffering some kind of penalty because she refused to bring it back. It’s really sad. She seemed like a sweet girl. I didn’t want to screw anyone’s life up over this. ☹ ---

It’s like somebody taking your checkbook. I never had more than a couple hundred in the bank in college. It would be pretty stupid to steal a check and forge my signature. That’s a felony for very little money. My checkbook was usually in my dorm room. The desk drawer wasn’t locked. Never occurred to me that it needed to be. I guess we were lucky to have honest people in the dorm. Cokes and sandwiches disappeared from the fridge. That was the only theft I remember. ---

Yeah,… our car that she stole has 170,000 miles on it and is from 2005. Apparently, it’s still running, because no one’s said otherwise. The girl didn’t even try to sell it for parts. I don’t get it at all. She got nothing out of this whatsoever. ---

I’m surprised the hand controls didn’t confuse her. My cousin always reassured mechanics the pedals still worked normally. Why yes, you can pull the car into the service bay. 😉 ---

But my coats, etc get caught on the hand controls at times. Ugggggh. (All of a sudden the engine revs aggressively as I roll down the window.) ---
