I can’t catch a god damned fish!

As much as I love Twilight Princess, that is by far the most irritating part. IIRC, when the arrow is in the middle of the meter, pull back on the remote _and hold it there_. You may be tempted to yank up several times; don’t. Just hold the remote up and you should get it.

Counterintuitive as hell, and the only part of the game that really pissed me off.

_No More Heroes_ is a blast. It’s almost as if Quentin Tarantino designed a video game–consciously retro, occasionally nonsensical, over-the-top violent, endlessly creative. Definitely not for everybody.

Zelda and Metroid were both great, but I admit I never finished either one, because stuff came up when I didn’t have time to play for a while and it was too hard to get back into them. (This happens a lot.)

I can’t recommend _Super Mario Galaxy_, _Super Paper Mario_, or _Super Smash Bros: Brawl_ highly enough.

…There’s a meter?

You know, the minigames that come with the console have a fishing game..it’s not like they can’t make a fishing game.
Stupid fish.

I struggled with the fish bit for half an hour as well - my take on how to do it: hold the remote still until the bob is being pulled down and then very quickly jerk the remote up and back towards you. For me it seemed that the speed of the jerk was what made the difference.

</div>

Sorry, it’s been a while since I played. **Illuminatiprimus** has it right; when the bob goes down, that’s when you jerk the remote up. What I was thinking of was the red and white stick coming up out of the bob. IIRC, it’s red, white, and red. When the middle of the white part is at the water level, that’s when you pull.

Okay, if the girl and I can’t catch a fish soon, this game is dead to me.

So far as I’m aware, the fishing sequence in the very first village is the only mandatory one. The fishing area with the guide is purely optional.

I never liked the fishing sequences in Zelda games myself, but the rest of the game is so much more than that that I try not to let it color my opinion of the whole thing.

Right, but when you can’t pass the very first thing. My girlfriend spent 15 or so minutes trying to do it with only failure at the end of the hook.
Yeah, think I’ll just go get Mario Galaxy instead.

I felt exactly the same way about the fishing sequence - I could feel this vast and fun game stretching out in front of me and my way to it was blocked by a sodding mini-game - a MINI-GAME DAMN IT!!!

But then I got past it, played the game for a while and stopped because I got bored. ☹

Well, I don’t know. There’s definitely a whole lot of game in front of me, but the controls seem a little off. You can’t run around and pick something up. It’s a little touchy about stopping in front of something in order to interact with it or pick it up.

Nintendo’s insistence on the C button is a little puzzling, but that’s just a personal preference that is easily overlooked.
I mean…come on. If the CD that ships with the console has a fishing game that works, why can’t there be a similar fishing game in Zelda? That’s just plain old stupid dumb.

I’m still eagerly waiting for Mario Kart, though.

(Maybe I’ll pick up No More Heroes if it’s on the cheap tomorrow.)

What game are you talking about? Wii Sports has baseball, golf, bowling, tennis and boxing. There’s no fishing game that comes with the console.

Whatever it is. WiiWare. There’s a fishing game. Whatever game it is that people buy only for the controller. That game.

Oh, that’s Wii Play. I never actually unlocked fishing. I got bored with Wii Play and went right back to Wii Sports.

I played it on someone else’s Wii. It’s pretty simple, but intuitive. It works, unlike the spot in Zelda.

I’ll give it a last-ditch effort tonight/tomorrow and then write it off. I wanted an adventure game, dammit. Not the world’s crappiest fishing simulator.

I had similar problems with the fishing in Zelda. My wife and I found the fishing in Wii Play to be too easy but the fishing in Zelda is BORING because there doesn’t seem to be any ryhme or reason as to why you don’t hook the fish when you jerk the controller.

She’s got it. Apparently you wait until it says you have a fish, then it says something else, then you mash the Z button a whole lot.
No, it doesn’t look very anime at all. It looks pretty decent…but…the plot is seriously..“you’re the 11th best assassin in the world. Kill the others”?

That sounds a little weak. I’ll look into it. I’ve heard some things about the game. I don’t need an amazing plot to suck me in. I seem pretty resistant to things like…“plots”.
I ended up really liking the plot but I can’t be any more detailed because I don’t want to spoil things.

One thing that’s different about the game is that the character you play as is a loser, and he’s meant to be. He’s made fun of as much as he’s portrayed heroically.

Those who liked NMH might want to check out Killer 7 for the Gamecube. It was made by the same people. It has kind of a different tone; it’s much darker than NMH. It also has a very complicated and confusing plot that is revealed slowly. But it’s a love-it-or-hate-it game, even more so than NMH. I bet copies are pretty cheap since it didn’t sell well.

I read on Wikipedia or someone else that Suda 51, the creator of both games, says Killer 7 is about political issues while No More Heroes is about social issues.
