So Dame Te Atairangi Kaahu, the Māori Queen had died. Does the Māori monarch have any government recognition? Does s/he get a diplomatic passport? Stipend? Will HM get a state funeral?
This article says the funeral will be on Monday. It’s unclear whether it will be a state funeral or not. I’m not sure that the concept of a state funeral even has much meaning within the context of Maori mourning rituals.
I see that she has been succeeded by her eldest son (which was not necessarily a given).
